Job summary

University Health Network is seeking a Diet Technician to support inpatient transplant units at Toronto General Hospital. The role reports to Allied Health Manager and requires collaboration with Clinical Dietitians to deliver patient-centered nutrition care.

Responsibilities include QA, education, and timely documentation while leveraging CBORD/Diet Office and PDA systems. A Community College Diploma in Food and Nutrition is required, with preference for a related university degree and CSNM

Qualifications

• Community College Diploma in Food and Nutrition or equivalent
• Degree in Food and Nutrition preferred
• One year related experience preferred
• Experience in a teaching hospital environment preferred
• CSNM certification within the first year of employment

• Assist Clinical Dietitians in providing patient-centered nutrition care

• Coordinate with Nutrition Services and supervising dietitian

Position Summary

Working under the direction of the Operational Manager and in collaboration with other members of the interdisciplinary team, this Diet Technician position supports the inpatient transplant units at Toronto General Hospital.

Duties

The responsibilities of the Diet Technician include: assisting the Clinical Dietitians in providing patient-centered nutrition care. In addition, the Diet Technician performs a variety of activities to ensure the efficient and effective provision of nutrition care including educational and QA responsibilities, on-going communication with the supervising dietitian and other key players, including Nutrition Services, to ensure information is completed in a timely fashion.

• Completion of a Community College Diploma program in Food and Nutrition, or recognized equivalent
• Completion of a degree in Food and Nutrition from a recognized university is preferred
• One year related experience is preferred
• Experience working in a teaching hospital environment is preferred
• Experience working in a multi-disciplinary setting
• Completion of the written examination to obtain membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition management (C.S.N.M) is required within the first year of employment
• Therapeutic nutrition knowledge
• Extensive knowledge of food preparation and food allergies
• Knowledge of CBORD/Diet Office management and PDA system
• Computer literacy
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Excellent interpersonal and patient service skills
• Very good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations
• Ability to work effectively in a team-orientated environment
• Ability to focus on priorities
