University Health Network (UHN) at Toronto General Hospital in Toronto, ON, is seeking a part-time Food Service Worker to support Nutrition Services. The role involves teardown of patient trays, cleaning, delivering food carts, and related duties in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The position is permanent part-time, up to 24 hours per week, with rotating shifts including weekends and holidays. Wage range is $27.27–$28.07 per hour, start rate non-negotiable; closing date September 17, 2026.

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school or recognized equivalent.
  • Food Handler Certificate required (documentation within 60 days).
  • 3–6 months practical and related experience and/or 1–3 months on the job training.
  • Ability to read/understand short notes, brief forms and memos.
  • Ability to do simple mathematical calculations.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job: lift up to 5 kg, loading/unloading food trucks, pushing heavy carts.
  • Ability to perform duties professionally, with courtesy and high-quality work.
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task.
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable policies.
  • Food Service Worker Certificate, an asset.
  • Required to work rotating shifts.
  • Must work at multiple areas within ware washing and rotating shifts in emergencies.

Hours: Up to 24 hours per week

Wage Range: $27.27 - $28.07 per hour. Start rate non-negotiable.

Shifts: 0630-2130 Monday-Sunday. Various shifts including alternating weekends & Statutory Holidays

Status: Permanent Part-Time

Duties
  • Performing teardown (stripping) of patient trays before cleaning, performing cleaning and washing activities
  • Performing garbage collection activity
  • Delivering patient food carts/items to designated locations
  • Performing other duties consistent with the job classification
Qualifications
  • At minimum, completion of high school or recognized equivalent
  • Food Handler Certificate, required (documentation to be provided within 60 days of hire)
  • 3-6 months practical and related experience and/or 1-3 months on the job training
  • Ability to read/understand short notes, brief forms and memos
  • Ability to do simple mathematical calculations (g., adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, etc.)
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job: able to lift up to 5 kg, loading, and unloading food trucks; pushing heavy food trucks during pick up and delivery of meals
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with UHN standards
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
  • Food Service Worker Certificate, an asset
  • Required to work rotating shifts
