Job summary

A regional health authority located in Victoria is seeking a Nursing Unit Clerk to support patient care through various administrative duties. Responsibilities include processing physician's orders and managing patient appointments. Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education with medical terminology knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Transcribing and processing physician's orders.

Job description
Overview

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Manager or designate and under general supervision, acting as a communication link for the Unit by transcribing and processing physician's orders, arranging patient tests, receiving results, and completing and sending physician requested referrals. Determines out-patient appointment priority & books appointments. Assembles and maintains patient charts and performs keyboarding and data entry responsibilities. Performs clerical support duties such as answering the phone, scheduling appointments, maintaining files, and timekeeping functions.

Qualifications

Education, Training And Experience

Grade 12, medical terminology and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program plus one year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
