Job summary

Halton Region in Burlington seeks a Nurse Practitioner to lead advanced nursing care in fixed and mobile sexual health clinics, addressing STI care, HIV, and family planning. You will work with a multidisciplinary team, perform diagnoses, and contribute to health promotion initiatives.

The role reports to the Manager of Sexual Health and requires a Master’s in Nursing and a minimum of 5 years in public health or primary care. Flexibility and travel within Halton are expected.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with Extended Class in good standing with the Ontario College of Nurses (CNO).
• A master's degree in nursing; or completion of a nursing program with additional advanced or extended primary health care nursing education from a recognized university.
• Minimum of five (5) years recent experience in a public/community health setting or primary care.
• In-depth understanding of medical directives.
• Clinical expertise in sexual health, family planning, relationships and harm reduction including diagnosing, prescribing medications, and creating treatment plans.
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, collaboration and decision-making skills.
• Knowledge of health promotion, community development and public health program planning.
• Skill in critical appraisal of research studies using evidence informed decision making and research methods.
• Ability to work with diverse communities with respect, sensitivity, cultural understanding, and facilitation skills.
• Proficient with MS Office and electronic medical records/databases.
• Good team player, flexibility, and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Provides advanced nursing clinical services to a multi-disciplinary team at fixed and mobile clinic sites.
• Counsels on sexuality, birth control, relationships and STI/HIV care.
• Diagnoses and manages treatment per Nurse Practitioner Standards.
• Engages in health promotion and community development initiatives.
• Provides in-service education to staff and partners as needed.
• Maintains STI surveillance in clinical practice.
• Participates on departmental, divisional and external committees.
• Applies quality improvement to improve clinic processes and customer service.
• Onboards and mentors placement nurse practitioners and nursing students.
• Performs other core NP competencies as needed (e.g., measles testing).
