Job summary

Guelph General Hospital seeks a Nurse Practitioner to deliver evidence-based care in partnership with patients and families. The NP will lead care delivery, collaborate with the care team, and promote safety, quality and patient experience within the hospital setting.

The role emphasizes leadership in clinical practice, program development, and adherence to Ontario NP Practice Standards, with opportunities for professional development and access to HOOPP.

Qualifications

• Adult or Primary Health Care NP with College of Nurses of Ontario registration
• Master’s degree in Nursing preferred
• Prescription and Management of Controlled Drugs course

Current Shifts

Primarily Days (Mon-Fri), 2 days/week - 8hrs
(Approximately 6 months)

Position Summary:

The primary role of the Nurse Practitioner (NP) is to provide high quality, safe, effective and evidence-based care in partnership with patients and families, in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario Nurse Practitioner Practice Standards and GGH’s mission, vision, values and policies. The NP uses advanced nursing knowledge clinical practice expertise and provides leadership to promote optimal patient health, program development, process improvements and the enhancement of professional standards. The NP optimizes the patient’s experience and care outcomes by:

• Being accountable for one’s decisions and professional practice;
• Establishing a therapeutic relationship with the patient and family;
• Collaborating with other members of the patient’s care team;
• Coordinating, communicating and documenting patient care activities;
• Providing high quality, evidenced based, patient and family-centred care.

Hospitalist Support

Supports hospitalist services by conducting comprehensive assessments, managing defined aspects of patient care, and facilitating timely admissions and discharges. The hospitalist physician remains the Most Responsible Provider (MRP) throughout the hospital stay

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:

• Adult or Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) (Registered Nurse in the Extended Class) with certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario with license to prescribe controlled substances
• Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalent preferred
• Completion of the Prescription and Management of Controlled Drugs and Substances Course
• Experience in clinical program development and evaluation
• Experience in development and implementation of Medical Directives and Policies and Procedures
• BLS certification
• Inpatient or acute care experience preferred
• Strong collaboration, communication, and clinical judgment skills
• Experience working as an advanced practice nurse or a nurse practitioner in a medical setting preferred
• Demonstrated commitment to best practice, nursing standards and life-long learning
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Strong critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills
