Job summary

The B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives is seeking Part-Time Family or Adult Nurse Practitioner Contract Assessors. Candidates will assess professional performance, participating in training and interviews while collaborating with the QA team. Ideal candidates possess solid clinical background and experience in education, ensuring adherence to nursing standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years’ experience in clinical practice.
  • Minimum three years’ experience as an educator and/or preceptor.
  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding BCCNM Standards of Practice.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct registrant interviews and documentation reviews.
  • Complete registrant professional performance assessments.
  • Contribute to improving BCCNM’s Quality Assurance Program.

Skills

What you will be doing

Assessors complete registrant professional performance assessments by reviewing nurse practitioner patient records against BCCNM Standards of Practice and Entry Level Competencies. Assessors work closely with the QA team and are appointed by BCCNM’s QA Committee. Assessors also contribute their expertise to the development and refinement of the Quality Assurance Program policy, process and tools.

Responsibilities Include

  • Participating in initial and regularly scheduled orientation, training and post-review debrief sessions
  • Conducting registrant interviews and documentation reviews virtually and in various locations around BC
  • Completing assessment reports
  • Contributing to improving BCCNM’s Quality Assurance Program

Your Education & Skills

  • Practicing registration in good standing with BCCNM
  • Completion of a BCCNM NP Onsite Peer Review
  • Minimum five years’ experience in clinical practice, including experience managing and leading nursing professionals
  • Minimum three years’ experience as an educator and / or preceptor
  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding :

Entry level competencies for RNs and NPs

  • BCCNM Standards of Practice, including the Professional Standards, RN and NP Scope of Practice and Practice Standards and NP competencies
  • QA Program related legislation, bylaws, policies and procedures
  • NP streams of practice
  • Best practices for prescribing controlled drugs and substances, including chronic non-cancer pain and opioid agonist therapy
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have completed additional education[1]in prescribing controlled drugs and substances and opioid agonist therapy
  • Demonstrated skills regarding :

Conducting professional performance assessments

  • Facilitation / coaching
  • Excellent oral, written and well-developed interpersonal communication skills
  • Intermediate level knowledge and experience using videoconferencing platforms and MS Office (MS CRM Dynamics, and MS SharePoint experience an asset)
  • Practice experience in the following areas is considered an asset :
  • Medical aesthetics
  • Medical assistance in dying (MAiD)
  • Men’s health
  • Women's health

1] This education is beyond BCCNM Scope of Practice Conditions for NPs prescribing controlled drugs and substances : e.g. the BC Centre on Substance Use Nurse Practitioner Addictions Fellowship.

Compensation

Successful candidates receive a contract fee for work assigned at the discretion of BCCNM.
