Pearson College UWC is recruiting for an outstanding Nurse Practitioner

Reporting to: Director of Human Resources, Health & Wellness

Position Summary:

As a member of the health and wellness team, the College Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides primary care to students through scheduled onsite appointments arranged by the college nurses.

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, Health & Wellness (Director), this position ensures high standards of clinical care by supporting other Health Centre staff and maintaining clinical hours to meet the health needs of an approximately 200-student boarding community. The College NP will promote health awareness, provide guidance on wellness matters, and collaborate with the health and wellness team to support the overall well-being of students.

Responsibilities

• Assess student health concerns to determine appropriate treatment and/or consultation within the accepted scope of practice.
• Use comprehensive medical knowledge to assess patients, diagnose diseases, disorders, or conditions, and order necessary diagnostic and screening tests.
• Prescribe pharmaceuticals as appropriate, including providing written explanations of potential side effects.
• Develop and communicate care plans with college nurses related to student injuries, medical conditions, and mental health circumstances.
• Serve as a key medical advisor to the College, ensuring that health-related standards align with changes in legislation.
• Work closely with the Health & Wellness team to ensure continuity of care.
• Maintain accurate and confidential medical records, including reporting accidents and injuries in accordance with College policies.
• Foster positive and trusting relationships with students, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and an understanding of diverse backgrounds.
• Establish and maintain relationships with professional health resources within the broader community.
• Provide patients with detailed information on treatments, potential side effects, aftercare instructions, and preventative care methods.
• Respond to emergency situations and assist medical personnel when onsite.
• Adhere to the standards of care established by the College of Nurses and Midwives of BC.
• Be available for after-hours texts or phone calls from nurses to support student health priorities.

Skills and Preferred Experience

• Current registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as a registered or licensed Nurse Practitioner.
• Current CPR/AED First Aid Certification.
• Experience working in an international healthcare setting and/or with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Experience working with adolescents (ages 16 to 19) in a healthcare and/or mental health care setting.
• A sensitive and empathetic approach to communicating with students, families, and the broader college community.
• Enthusiastic, energetic, and self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong judgment, tact, and discretion.
• Five years of experience as an NP (preferred).
• Emergency and mental health experience is considered an asset.
• Class 5 Driver’s License required; Class 4 preferred.

Compensation & Organization

This position is located at Pearson College UWC in Metchosin, British Columbia, approximately 40 minutes from downtown Victoria. The College offers an hourly wage ranging from $78.00 to $85.00 for 10 hours per week (5 hours per day: 4 hours of direct patient care, 1 hour of administrative duties) to an outstanding and qualified professional.
