About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi‑Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol‑free workplace and has adopted a zero‑tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

The On‑Site Nurse is the medical lead for the Mount Milligan Mine and functions in a physician‑extender capacity in collaboration with a BC‑licensed on‑call physician group. This role partners closely with Primary Care Paramedics (PCPs), Advanced First Aid (AFA) staff, Health & Safety, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, and Human Resources teams to deliver comprehensive occupational health services.

The On‑Site Nurse oversees all medical situations occurring on site, maintains records of injuries, illnesses, treatments, and supports case management and return‑to‑work (RTW) programs. The role reports directly to the Superintendent and provides both clinical care and broader health program leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Reporting

  • Report to the Superintendent and provide recommendations, process improvements, and operational support.
  • Supervise PCP and AFA personnel, including oversight of AFA education and competency.
  • Review and approve purchase requisitions (PRs) related to medical operations.
  • Participate in monthly reporting including health statistics and safety summary contributions.

Client Care & Daily Operations

  • Provide day‑to‑day injury management and follow‑ups.
  • Attend to walk‑in patients when PCP/AFA staff are unavailable.
  • Diagnose and treat health issues; consult with on‑call physicians as needed.
  • Dispense prescription and non‑prescription medications under physician direction.
  • Maintain accurate health records for all site employees.
  • Document clinical assessments and treatments per nursing standards.
  • Support site‑wide emergency response and participate in emergency drills.

Health Program Management

  • Coordinate and support occupational health screening and prevention programs.
  • Deliver disease prevention, respiratory surveillance, and exposure control programs.
  • Support MSI/MSD prevention programs and lead stretching or ergonomics initiatives.
  • Lead wellness program development including nicotine cessation, audiometry, A&D testing, and pulmonary function testing.
  • Conduct fit testing and ensure compliance with respiratory protection requirements.
  • Attend on‑site health inspections of workforce camps.
  • Maintain medical diagnostic equipment.

Case Management & Return to Work

  • Identify case management needs through objective assessment.
  • Liaise with off‑site healthcare providers, HR, and Safety teams to support RTW planning.
  • Ensure WCB compliance and complete required reporting.

Operations & Administrative Duties

  • Manage weekly medication and medical supply inventory.
  • Maintain fleet management responsibilities for medical vehicles.
  • Review and update medical SOPs.
  • Coordinate pre‑employment medical screenings with HR.
  • Create and update workplace health policies.
  • Work with Industrial Hygiene to identify and reduce occupational exposures.
  • Partner with Environmental and Safety teams.
  • Participate in safety training and education.
  • Promote employee health and wellbeing with site leadership.
About You
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing; Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a remote industrial setting.
  • Strong clinical experience with broad illness and injury management.
  • Understanding of occupational disease, workplace exposures, addictions, and mental health.
  • Knowledge of WCB compliance and reporting.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and decision‑making skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of industrial disease, injury, and illness.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a timely fashion.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with all levels of employees.
  • Ability to work with external agencies and contractors in a pro‑active, effective manner.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and conflict management.
  • Required to meet pre‑employment testing requirements.

Preferred:

  • COHN would be preferred or given preference.
  • Advanced certifications such as CPR, ACLS, cardiac arrest, and triage training.
  • Experience in occupational health nursing or emergency/remote medicine.

Working Conditions

  • Camp‑based role working 12‑hour days on a 14 day on/14 day off rotation, with accommodation provided during rotation.
  • Exposure to indoor/outdoor environments, heavy equipment, noise, and moving parts.
  • PPE always required.
  • Safety‑sensitive environment with zero‑tolerance drug and alcohol policy.
  • Bus transportation provided from regional locations.
