Job summary

Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Team Manager and in collaboration with other nursing team members, the incumbent is responsible for:

  • Educational Program Development.
    • Assessing, planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, revising, coordinating and scheduling education/training programs that are instructionally sound and which enableNursing Resource Coordinators, Visiting Nurses and Respite Nurses in the Home Care Program to fulfill professional practice standards and competency requirements, as well as support quality patient care.
  • Teaching & Learning Activities.
    • Teaching and/or coordinating the teaching of all aspects/phases of selected nursing educational programs (e.g. orientation, in-services covering specialized or new procedures, refresher courses, continuing education, etc.).
  • Consultation & Program Support.
    • Acting as a consultant, providing ongoing nursing support to Nursing Resource Coordinators, Visiting Nurses, Team Managers and other staff throughout the Home Care Program.
  • Nursing Systems & Process Change Management.
    • Participating on and/or leading numerous committees involved in the review, development, modification, implementation and evaluation of nursing processes, policies, procedures, best practice guidelines, nursing standards, protocols and training manuals; quality initiatives; risk management; special projects; etc. aimed at improving the continuum of care.
  • Quality Management.
    • Initiating and participating in ongoing quality improvement initiatives.
  • Professional & Self Development (ongoing).
Experience
  • Minimum of four years recent related nursing experience with demonstrated competency in teaching, education and program development and evaluation, required.
  • Previous experience in community nursing, preferably in Home Care, required.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Diploma/Certification in Adult Education preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration with the College of Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
  • Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle are required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)/Registered Psychiatric Nurses Act.
  • Basic computer skills are required. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, and Access, preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve in complex situations.
  • Evidence of knowledge of the principles of adult learning and teaching strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to function creatively and independently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development.
  • Initiates and supports change.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
