Job summary

Kinectrics seeks a Nuclear Safety Project Manager to join our Toronto team in a senior, permanent capacity. The role reports to the Manager, Nuclear Safety Projects and requires an engineering degree with 8+ years of multi-disciplinary project leadership in nuclear safety.

Responsibilities include managing scope, schedule and cost, leading cross-functional teams, and maintaining client relationships while delivering innovative, safe, compliant solutions in a highly technical environment.

Qualifications

  • A four-year university degree in Engineering (Electrical/I&C, Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil) or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience independently managing multi-disciplinary projects with significant scope and complexity.
  • Good working knowledge of nuclear power plant design/operation.
  • Exceptional communications skills, written and verbal, in small and large groups.
  • Ability to learn quickly, take initiative, and present information clearly.

Salary Range: $120,000 - $145,000. Exact compensation may vary depending on the individual experience and qualifications of each candidate. Applicants with greater or less than the minimum qualifications for this posted opportunity may be considered for alternate opportunities.

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
  • Apply a significant level of project management expertise to ensure projects are managed effectively (i.e., develop and manage scope, time, cost, performance, safety, communication, human resources, contracts, materials, risks, and quality).
  • Accountability for advanced multidisciplinary projects with substantial scope and complexity and variable duration, covering a broad range of technical and commercial issues and with significant revenue and industry wide impact.
  • Display strong leadership skills and independent judgement to be recognized by your peers and customers as a sound, practical and innovative project manager with extraordinary skills in the discipline.
  • Take the lead role in consulting with clients and stakeholders to maintain strong relationships and enhance Kinectrics business capabilities
  • Interact with a full range of skilled staff (e.g., Design Engineering, Nuclear Safety, Facility Staff, Procurement, and Construction) on highly unique or important matters
  • Proactively and independently identify, investigate, and resolve complex project risks
  • Provide timely and up‑to‑date project information, to Kinectrics Management, project team, and customer(s) in the form of proposals, reports, recommendations, and presentations
  • Lead the development of new and innovative technical and project solutions and services to support customer needs beyond the scope of past practices or precedent.
  • Manage vendor performance and support interdepartmental interfaces to achieve project goals.
  • Identify and implement new and innovative solutions to resolve issues and enhance project efficiency while maintaining quality.
  • Ensure that projects have an associated schedule including critical path, cost loading, Earned Value Analysis (EVA), relationships and logic ties, constraints, milestones, and codes
  • Retain historical information for cost and schedule impact analysis for future work
  • Independently plan, develop, write, and present major proposals
  • Establish and communicate Project Execution Plans to define duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority to relevant stakeholders
  • Provide mentorship and work direction to junior Kinectrics staff and review complex work of others for accuracy.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You Need To Succeed
  • A four-year university degree in Engineering (Electrical/I&C, Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil Engineering, and/or) or equivalent
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience independently managing multi-disciplinary projects with significant scope and complexity demonstrating a clear understanding of project methodologies. With clear demonstration of leadership skills and project management qualifications, applicants with lesser experience may be considered for a developmental position.
  • Good working knowledge of basic generation plant design/operation related to nuclear power plants.
  • Exceptional communications skills, written and verbal, formal and informal, in small and large groups.
  • Ability to understand technical and business processes quickly, with initiative for continuous personal learning/improvement.
  • Ability to learn and understand technical and business processes quickly and take initiative for continuous improvement.
  • Ability to independently prepare and clearly present information to multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates strengths in advanced and complex conflict resolution, problem-solving, and change management.
  • High sense of personal accountability.
  • Knowledge and experience in project accounting software (e.g., SAP), project scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6), Microsoft Office tools and related project/technical software.
  • The following are considered assets:
  • Project management certification such as Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM), Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Ability to obtain Security clearance (or eligibility) for nuclear site access may be required
  • Accreditation (or eligibility) as a licensed Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO)
  • Experience with Nuclear Safety & Licensing projects
  • Travel to multiple locations (including Greater Toronto Area, Kincardine and/or Tiverton) may be required.

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
