Job summary

Kinectrics is seeking an Electrical Engineer for its Nuclear Equipment Solutions team in Toronto. The role focuses on CGD/EQ program management, testing, and qualification of critical nuclear components.

You will collaborate with design, fabrication, and testing colleagues to ensure safe, reliable equipment for power plants. Requires a 4-year engineering degree and P.Eng eligibility, with 4+ years in industrial electronics and testing, plus experience with supplier oversight.

Qualifications

  • Requires a 4-year university degree in Electrical/Electronics engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or eligible for P. Eng designation.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in industrial electronics and electrical product development and processes with emphasis on testing.
  • Experience in managing suppliers for part design, assembly and manufacturing.
  • Experience in test software development such as LabVIEW is an asset.
  • Knowledge of CANDU nuclear technology is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Manage technical and analytical support for multiple projects to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Conduct programs of advanced research, testing, qualification and CGD/EQ activities for nuclear components.
  • Support design, fabrication and testing of parts and equipment within Nuclear Equipment Solutions.
  • Lead projects involving CGD, EQ, SQ and design/build of custom equipment.
  • Develop test methodologies, fixtures, data analysis, and testing reports for components and systems.
  • Prepare design plans, requirements and other design outputs as required.
  • Assist in proposals and bottom-up cost estimates; liaise with vendors and staff as needed.
  • Ensure timely, accurate project information and status updates to stakeholders.

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
  • Reporting to the Service Line Director (SLD) for commercial grade dedication and environmental qualification (CGD/EQ), manage technical and analytical support for multiple projects of varying complexity to ensure work is completed on schedule, on-budget and to the required quality standards.
  • Conduct programs of advanced research, testing, investigation, qualification and commercial grade dedication directed towards the application of manufacturing, testing of nuclear parts and equipment to assure safety and reliability of critical parts in nuclear power plants.
  • Support a variety of projects within Nuclear Equipment Solutions team including design, fabrication, and testing of parts and equipment (both commercial grade and custom first of a kind systems)
  • Lead and execute projects involving commercial grade dedication (CGD), environmental qualification (EQ), seismic qualification (SQ), and design/build of custom equipment
  • Lead and execute equipment testing programs including developing test methodologies, design / build of test fixtures, analysis of test data, and development of test procedures and reports. Testing will include individual components (such as CGD), and integrated systems such as modular skid systems
  • Understanding of design process, and preparation of design deliverables such as design plans, design requirements, and other design outputs as required
  • Act as a resource to the Sr. Director and Director in managing preparation of proposals and developing bottom up cost estimates
  • Assist in procurement engineering activities such as preparing incoming inspections, scope of work, reviewing terms and identifying appropriate risks.
  • Work independently and as part of engineering teams to contribute and prepare technical evaluations, technical procedures, technical test plans, data analysis, report preparation and report reviews.
  • Apply recognized Project Management methodology to ensure projects are managed effectively (e.g. managing scope, time, cost, performance, communication, human resources, contracts, materials, risks and quality).
  • Liaise with staff, contractors, consultants and vendor resources as appropriate
  • Ensure staff and customers are provided with timely and accurate project information and status updates.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in the technical and project management process
  • Evaluate project and lessons learned via post-project review processes
  • Provide feedback to SLD regarding teamwork performance
  • Perform duties required to close all project documentation and archive appropriate records
  • Other duties as assigned
What You Need To Succeed
  • Requires 4-year university degree in Electrical/Electronics engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to acquire P. Eng designation
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in industrial electronics and electrical product development and processes with an emphasis on functional/performance testing. Provided liaison between design and manufacturing.
  • Experience in managing suppliers for part design, assembly, and manufacturing.
  • Experience in test software development such as LabView is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with CANDU nuclear technology are considered an asset.
  • Experience in providing technical support, troubleshooting, and directing staff to perform testing using a variety of instrumentation specific to electronics testing (i.e. oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies and signal generators).
  • Experience in developing technical specifications and test procedures for testing of a variety of electrical products.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing quotes and building bottom up cost estimates.
  • Clear understanding and experience of various project management methodologies.
  • Demonstrated project management skills such as time management, risk management, cost control, action oriented, planning and scheduling, escalation, delegation, etc.
  • Excellent problem-solving, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively on a technical level.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible in areas of work and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong computer skills.

This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
