Role Summary

The Senior Quality Assurance Engineer at Flowserve is tasked with ensuring that all products, processes and services within Flowserve’s Toronto Quick Response Center (QRC) facility producing products for the nuclear industry or related industry meet stringent quality and safety standards. This involves managing and executing quality assurance program activities, internally auditing Flowserve Toronto’s quality assurance program for regulatory, customer and Flowserve compliance, implementing quality assurance programs aligned to industry or customer expectations, identifying and resolving programmatic non‑conformances or quality notifications, and supporting Nuclear product growth initiatives. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of nuclear safety principles, quality assurance methodologies, and international Nuclear standard / code requirements. Travel is expected to be less than 10% however, travel may be expected up to 20% periodically.

Primary Responsibilities

Program Maintenance: Ensure Toronto QMS compliance with nuclear industry and customer standards and regulations. This includes internal auditing, support with site regulatory or customer audits/surveys, and corrective actions on findings to determine the effectiveness of the QA Program.

Quality Assurance and Control: Develop, implement and maintain quality assurance protocols for nuclear projects and programs. Coordinate with production in order to plan and execute inbound and production inspection activities. Collaborate with the department or other company departments to clarify or resolve issues or techniques related to QC activities.

Regulatory Compliance: Keep abreast of changes in regulations and update quality protocols accordingly. Highlight to leadership changes coming in the industry and its impact or opportunity to Flowserve Toronto’s nuclear manufacturing strategy. Responsible for managing site QMS.

Risk Management: Identify potential risks in nuclear projects and develop strategies to mitigate these risks. Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions as needed.

Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in nuclear quality standards. Analyze data to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to enhance overall project quality.

Training and Development: Develop and deliver training programs to enhance the quality skills of the site. Ensure that all identified personnel are knowledgeable about quality standards and protocols.

Documentation: Maintain detailed records of quality assurance activities, including purchased product incoming documents, final document reviews of shipments, audit reports, findings and corrective actions. Ensure that all documentation is accurate and accessible through enterprise quality systems. Review and approve purchase orders for applicable materials, parts, components and other items for quality assurance requirement compliance. Develop the ITP with engineering alignment. Review and approve document packages for customer release.

Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with stakeholders, including clients, regulatory bodies and internal teams, to ensure transparency and alignment on quality objectives. Lead site‑wide efforts to drive process and product defects out of the daily work activities and deliverables. Implement an effective root‑cause analysis and corrective action management program to ensure causes of defects and escapes are thoroughly understood and corrective and preventative actions are implemented and sustained. Drive the adoption of poka‑yoke solutions where possible. Participate in external supplier quality surveillance activities and audits.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Quality Management, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in nuclear quality assurance or a related field.
  • At least five years of demonstrated success leading a nuclear quality program that meets the requirements of CSA N299.
  • At least five years of experience with accepting/approving NDE (such as LPI, RT, MT, PMI, UT).
  • Proficiency in quality assurance methodologies (including print reading and GD&T understanding), regulatory compliance and risk management.
  • Familiarity with nuclear engineering principles and technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high‑quality standards.
  • Ability to adapt to changing regulations and project requirements.
  • Flexibility to work in diverse and challenging environments.
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience with international nuclear standards such as ASME, CSA, ISO 19443 codes and standards and other relevant industry regulations.
  • Familiar with Commercial Grade Dedication and material upgrade requirements.
  • Nuclear audit experience to CSA N285; CSA N299; 10 CFR 50 App. B; NQA‑1 and has maintained Lead Auditor Certification.
  • At least five years of demonstrated success leading a nuclear quality program that meets the requirements of ASME BPVC Sections II and III, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B and ASME NQA‑1, as well as ISO 9001.
  • ASQ CQA, NQA‑1 Lead Auditor or similar.
  • ASQ CQE CIP Green Belt training and/or Lean Manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with CMM related inspection methodologies.
Site Specific Details

On site in Toronto, ON. Standard office hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Mon‑Fri, including occasional Saturdays.

The pay range for this role is $101,049.82 – $151,574.74 per year.
