Position summary
SES is looking for a School Counsellor to work with us on our programs and build relationships with students, families, and staff in our community.
The position
- Primary responsibility is to connect School with families in the community
- Provide individual and group counselling to students
- Assist students in developing effective coping strategies for academic and personal challenges
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify students in need of support
- Promote the importance of Education and assist families in managing challenges on accessing school programs
- Increase the awareness of the community on the positive and progressive programs of the school
- Enhance parent engagement
- Maintain accurate records of counseling sessions and student progress
- Refer students to external resources and support services when necessary
- Provide crisis intervention and support for students in immediate need
- Ensure that feedback for improvement is converted into action plans so the community will feel that they are heard.
- Collaborate with school leaders on how to bring value back to the community
- Foster a positive and inclusive school environment
- Support the drive to increase school enrollments through strong relationships with families
- Support the learning and well-being of students social and emotional health to enhance their overall development and learning
- Trauma informed practice to enhance transformation of schools into compassionate and safe learning communities
- Understand the impacts of intergenerational trauma
- Other tasks that may be assigned by immediate leader.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in counseling, Psychology, Education, or a related field require
- Certified School Counselor credentials (or working towards certification) preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a counseling role, preferably in an educational setting
- Experience with adolescent development and issues involving sexually exploited youth, mental health, drug and alcohol misuse, concurrent issues and poverty
- A combination of education/experience can be considered

- Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, manage aggressive behaviour, and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioural management techniques
- Ability to establish/maintain satisfactory work relationships with the public and other employees to deal tactfully and effectively with co-workers, public and other agencies and to maintain confidentiality
- Able to pass a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening.
