Job summary

Alteo is seeking a Network Administrator for a permanent position based in Montreal with remote work from Montreal. The role involves managing a multi-site network, coordinating with international teams, and traveling 10–20% for deployments and escalations.

You will configure Cisco Catalyst devices, pfSense firewalls, and Proxmox VE clusters, while writing clear procedures in Spanish for our Latin American colleagues.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and maintain multi-site network infrastructure across sites including abroad.
• Administer pfSense firewalls: rulesets, NAT, site-to-site and remote-access VPNs.
• Build and maintain Proxmox VE hosts and clusters: VM/container provisioning, storage, backups, virtual networking.
• Troubleshoot end-to-end from physical cabling to firewall issues using CLI and packet captures.
• Coordinate with Spanish-speaking site teams; write procedures in Spanish.
• Travel to sites for buildouts, migrations and escalated incidents.
• Maintain network diagrams, IP address management, and device inventory.
• Coordinate with ISPs, vendors, and contractors on circuits and RMAs.

*** Remote job from Montreal. Multi-site role with international travel (~10-20%). Spanish is required (full professional fluency, spoken and written) since the majority of the team is located in south America. ***

You will be responsible for operating a network infrastructure across multiple sites, including facilities abroad. We're looking for a hands-on Network Administrator / Technician who is as comfortable racking and cabling equipment as configuring it, and who can work directly with our Spanish-speaking site teams — remotely day to day, and on-site during deployments, upgrades, and escalations.

Responsibilities:

• Deploy, configure, and maintain multi-site network infrastructure: Cisco Catalyst switching and routing (VLANs, trunking, STP, LACP, inter-VLAN routing)
• Administer pfSense firewalls: rulesets, NAT, site-to-site and remote-access VPNs (IPsec/OpenVPN/WireGuard), high availability
• Build and maintain Proxmox VE hosts and clusters: VM/container provisioning, storage, backups, virtual networking
• Troubleshoot end to end — from the physical layer (cabling, optics, hardware) through switching, routing, and firewall issues — using packet captures, CLI diagnostics, and a structured methodology
• Act as the primary technical contact for Spanish-speaking site teams abroad: guide on-site staff through diagnostics and repairs, and write clear procedures and instructions in Spanish
• Travel to sites for buildouts, migrations, and escalated incidents
• Coordinate with ISPs, vendors, and contractors on circuits, RMAs, and installations

Profile:

• 3–5 years of hands‑on network administration or senior technician experience in enterprise environments
• Proficiency in Spanish is a must since you will interact with a latin american team on a day to day basis
• Solid Cisco IOS experience on Catalyst platforms (switching required, routing fundamentals expected)
• Production experience administering pfSense (or comparable firewall platforms)
• Experience running Proxmox VE (or comparable hypervisors) in production
• Strong, methodical troubleshooting skills — able to isolate faults quickly under pressure and communicate status clearly
• Full professional fluency in Spanish, spoken and written, including technical vocabulary
• Valid passport and ability to travel internationally, occasionally on short notice

Responsabilités :

• Déployer, configurer et maintenir une infrastructure réseau multisite : commutation et routage Cisco Catalyst (VLAN, trunking, STP, LACP, routage inter-VLAN)
• Administrer les pare-feu pfSense : ensembles de règles, NAT, VPN site à site et d'accès à distance (IPsec/OpenVPN/WireGuard), haute disponibilité
• Mise en place et maintenance d'hôtes et de clusters Proxmox VE : provisionnement de machines virtuelles et de conteneurs, stockage, sauvegardes, réseaux virtuels
• Dépannage de bout en bout — de la couche physique (câblage, composants optiques, matériel) aux problèmes de commutation, de routage et de pare-feu — à l'aide de captures de paquets, de diagnostics via l'interface en ligne de commande (CLI) et d'une méthodologie structurée
• Servir de contact technique principal pour les équipes des sites hispanophones à l'étranger : guider le personnel sur site dans les diagnostics et les réparations, et rédiger des procédures et des instructions claires en espagnol

Profil :

• 3 à 5 ans d'expérience pratique en administration réseau ou en tant que technicien senior dans des environnements d'entreprise
• La maîtrise de l'espagnol est indispensable, car vous serez amené à interagir quotidiennement avec une équipe d'Amérique latine
• Solide expérience de Cisco IOS sur les plateformes Catalyst (compétences en commutation requises, connaissances de base en routage attendues)
• Expérience en production dans l'administration de pfSense (ou de plateformes de pare-feu comparables)
• Expérience dans l'exploitation de Proxmox VE (ou d'hyperviseurs comparables) en production
