Job summary

The Weir Group PLC in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia is seeking a Quality Assurance Engineer to provide QA expertise in support of the Royal Canadian Navy’s River Class Destroyer project. This full-time, permanent position allows for a combination of in-office and remote work.

Key responsibilities include systems engineering process assurance, configuration management, data management, and maintaining strong client relationships. The ideal candidate will have relevant post-secondary education and must meet security clearance requirements.

About The Role

Provide Quality Assurance (QA) expertise across modelling, data management, data integration, analysis, and Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V) services in support of the Royal Canadian Navy. Offer multi-disciplinary engineering and technical services related to the River Class Destroyer (RCD) Naval Combat System. Weir Marine Engineering supports the RCD Project Management Office (PMO) within the Department of National Defence (DND) Office at the Bluenose building in Dartmouth, NS. The Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Quality Assurance Engineer will conduct QA activities across the MBSE enterprise in support of the RCD Program, and may also support other project areas such as Integrated Test Evaluation and Acceptance (ITEA), Performance Modelling and Simulation (M&S), Land Based Test Capability (LBTC), and Synthetic Environment Support activities. This is a full-time, permanent position with a combination of working in-office and working from home.

Weir Marine Engineering supports the RCD Project Management Office (PMO) within the Department of National Defence (DND) Office at the Bluenose building in Dartmouth, NS.

What You’ll Do
  • Systems Engineering Process Assurance: Defining and enforcing use of standard Systems Engineering modelling template suite and style guide; developing, maintaining, and auditing Systems Engineering Standards and Processes, such as those defined in ISO/IEC 15288:2015, ISO 9001:2015, and NASA-SP/6015; supporting Systems Engineering Lifecycle phase reviews; contributing to Systems Design processes; performing Verification, Validation and Accreditation of developed models.
  • Configuration Management: Implementing and supporting Configuration Management and Change Control processes; providing quality oversight for Systems Engineering model and document lifecycle management; developing and tracking key performance indicators and quality metrics in alignment with the RCD Systems Engineering strategy.
  • Model Based Systems Engineering: Conducting data capture sessions with members of the operational community; developing and verifying system architecture models within the project's MBSE environment; processing, querying, and analysing complex data sets; application of a disciplined approach and adherence to MBSE Standards and Processes; supporting reviews of subcontractor developed materials; supporting requirements decomposition, traceability, and verification processes.
  • Support to client: Maintaining positive, friendly, collaborative relationships with team members, and internal and external stakeholders. Liaison with subject matter experts, DND customers and suppliers.

  • Mandatory: Must obtain a Government of Canada security clearance, which necessitates Canadian citizenship and a minimum of 10 years of continuous residence in Canada.
  • Mandatory: Post‑secondary education in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Management, or equivalent experience.
  • Mandatory: Skilled in reading, writing, and speaking English, with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels (both in‑person and electronically) with peers, supervisors, and clients. Capable of drafting reports and technical correspondence.
  • Desirable: Knowledge or experience of ISO 9001 Quality Management Standard and Configuration Management Standards ISO-10007:2017 and EIA-649C.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with data modelling languages and MBSE frameworks such as UML, SysML, DODAF, DNDAF, and UAF.
  • Desirable: Experience implementing the Object Oriented Systems Engineering Method (OOSEM) using Cameo Enterprise Architecture.
