Job summary

Weir Canada Inc., Weir Marine Engineering seeks a qualified candidate to join the integrated Mechanical Engineering Systems and Equipment team. The position can be based in Halifax, LaSalle, Lévis or Victoria, with on-site and hybrid work options.

You will provide SME support for designated marine systems through design, installation, operation and maintenance, maintain documentation, and coordinate with Navy and NETE programs.

Qualifications

  • Recognized technologist certification or certified to the RQ-PO1, QL-6 or QL-7 level of military technical training.
  • Proficient with maintenance procedures and documentation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the O365 environment.
  • Well-developed technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Able to access equipment during shipboard surveys/inspections.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills, meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong knowledge in maintenance, operation, design and/or troubleshooting of marine systems.
  • Previous DRMIS/SAP experience.
  • Experience with Royal Canadian Navy/Army/Air Force/Coast Guard.
  • Familiarity with certification requirements (e.g., SOLAS/IMO, IEEE, CSA, Naval Ship Code).
  • Canadian citizenship with 10+ years in Canada for security clearance.

Purpose of Role

Our mission is “To protect the Best Interests of the Navy”. We are looking for a qualified candidate to work within the integrated Mechanical Engineering Systems and Equipment team. The position can be based in Halifax, LaSalle, Lévis or Victoria.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing subject matter expertise for designated systems and equipment during design, installation/implementation, operation, and maintenance activities including:
    • Review of technical documentation for quality improvement initiatives;
    • Support of technical investigations and engineering studies;
    • Optimization of maintenance documentation and schedules;
    • Assisting with the development and review of solutions to technical problems including engineering change proposals; and
    • Provision of on-site technical support.
  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.
  • Assessment and reporting of a system’s material state at all points throughout a ship’s operational cycle including during Maintenance prior to ship deployments, Docking Work Periods and New Construction.
    • Assessment is conducted based on a survey of the system’s status from the perspective of Physical State, Testing, Configuration, Regulation, Certification, and Preventive and Corrective Maintenance.
  • Management and maintenance of any developed information and records within the RCN and NETE systems of record.
  • Developing and maintaining process and planning associated with NETE’s support of the MSV Program.
  • Developing good working relationship within the broader stakeholder organizations to ensure effective coordination of support activities.
Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications
  • Recognized technologist certification or certified to the RQ-PO1, QL-6 or QL-7 level of military technical training.
  • Proficient with maintenance procedures and documentation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the O365 environment.
  • Well-developed technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Able to manage a mix of office and shipboard/dockyard work: shipboard work includes climbing ladders in/out of machinery spaces in order to access equipment during shipboard physical surveys and inspections.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills, able to meet project deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong working knowledge in the maintenance, operation, design and/or troubleshooting of a wide range of marine systems.
  • Previous DRMIS/SAP experience.
  • Previous experience working within the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Air Force or Canadian Coast Guard.
  • Familiarity with certification requirements including, but not limited to, Classification Societies, SOLAS/IMO, IEEE, CSA, Naval Ship Code, and DND regulations is an asset.
  • Canadian citizenship, with 10 or more years residing in Canada with no periods longer than six continuous months out of country, is absolutely necessary as part of the requirements to obtain a government security clearance to the minimum level of Secret.
