Job Overview
Haisla Nation is seeking out two full-time Seasonal Natural Resource Technicians/ Guardian Watchman; they will be reporting to the Department Manager. The Natural Resource Technician/Guardian Watchman plays a crucial role in the stewardship of the Haisla territory. The Technician/Guardian acts as an ambassador for the Haisla Nation territory, interacting with visitors and resource users to monitor the human impacts of land and resource use, collecting environmental and land use data to monitor environmental changes on health of ecological cultural values. The Technician/Guardian reports violations of Haisla Nation and government policies and regulations. The Guardian applies Indigenous knowledge to natural and cultural resource management and holds a prominent role in implementing land-based cultural revitalization initiatives and contributes to programs including land use planning and resource management.
DUTIES:
Salmon, eulachon, and shellfish surveys; fish habitat assessments; watershed restoration; hatchery projects; environmental research; catch monitoring; water quality and biotoxin sampling; Haisla Community-oriented food fisheries; youth and cultural programs; Wa’wais cabin repairs; Marine Conservancy maintenance; trail maintenance and development; and forestry assessments. Participate in staff and community meetings or consultations, marine use planning, natural resource-related events, training, marine response, and other duties as assigned.
