Third Schools is seeking a dedicated Music Teacher to deliver comprehensive music education across Kindergarten through Grade 12. The majority of students are in Third Academy and ursa programs, with a focus on diverse learning needs.

Responsibilities include developing engaging lessons, tutoring students as needed, and collaborating with parents and staff to support student growth. A Bachelor of Education is required, with Music specialization preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education is required; music education preferred.

Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Music Teacher to deliver comprehensive music education across our Kindergarten, elementary, and high school programs (Grades 1 through 12). The majority of our students are enrolled in Third Academy (specialized learning needs) and ursa (teacher-directed programming).

Primary Work Location: 400 Prince of Peace Way, Calgary, AB T1X 1G2

Terms of Employment: Permanent employment, Full time, Day, 35 Hours Per Week

Number of Vacancies: 1 vacancy

Start Date: Starts as soon as possible

Compensation: $60,000 to $90,000 annually (To be negotiated), commensurate with education and experience on the established Teacher Salary Grid.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Instruction & Curriculum: Develop and deliver engaging music lessons, activities, and curriculum aligned with Alberta Education standards.
• Student Support: Identify individual learning needs, evaluate progress, and provide tailored tutoring or remedial programs, particularly for specialized student populations.
• Collaboration: Communicate actively regarding student academic and behavioral progress with parents, classroom teachers, and school leaders.
• Leadership: Supervise classroom teaching assistants, mentor practicum students, and participate in collaborative school planning and professional development.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: A Bachelor of Education degree is required. A degree or specialization in Music or Music Education is highly preferred.
• Certification: Must hold or be able to attain a valid Permanent or Interim Alberta Professional Teaching Certification issued by Alberta Education.
• Experience: Proven experience teaching music to K-12 students. Experience working with students with mild to severe learning disorders (special education) or in alternative/flexible educational settings is a significant asset.
• Skills: Strong ability to differentiate instruction, design individualized learning plans, and utilize alternative assessment methods. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working with parents, teaching assistants, and specialized educators.
