Job summary

Abbotsford School District is seeking a Music Education teacher for Music Explorations 6–8 and Band 6–8. The successful candidate will provide music instruction on a rotating schedule, with Band taught year-round and Music Exploration every other day in mornings.

The role includes leading ensembles, ensemble planning, and contributing to a collaborative school culture. The position is temporary under a UF N contract and may convert or adjust before June 30, 2027.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Fine Arts with Major/Minor in Music.
• Demonstrated successful teaching experience in Recording Art, Musical Theater, Concert Band, Choir, Jr Jazz Band, Sr Jazz Band at the Secondary School level.
• Major practicum/work experience in Music at the Secondary School level.
• Secondary or middle teacher training with university level music training.
• Eligible for B.C. Certification.

Responsibilities

• Teach Music Explorations 6, 7, 8 and Band 6, 7, 8.
• Deliver Music Exploration every other day; Band every other day.
• Temporary UFN contract with potential changes before June 30, 2027; may revert to casual TTOC.

The starting annual salary for this full-time School Teacher position ranges from $61, 502 to $1 12 , 806 , with placement on the July 1, 202 5 Teacher Salary Grid based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.

Job Summary & Responsibilities

Music Exploration is provided every other day to assigned classes in the mornings. Band is provided every other day to each grade in the afternoons. Music is taught on a rotation to classes, and each rotation lasts 25% of the year. Band is taught year-round.

The successful candidate will teach Music Explorations 6, 7, 8 & Band 6, 7, 8.

*This opportunity is a temporary UFN contract, which is subject to change or cancel before June 30, 2027 . In the event the teacher returns to work (work-hardening, part-time, full-time) before the end of the school year, the duration and/or FTE of this temporary assignment will be amended. The successful applicant must accept the reduced work week (amended to a part-time contract ) and will revert to a casual TTOC.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor of Fine Arts with Major/Minor in Music
• Demonstrated successful teaching experience in Recording Art, Musical Theater, Concert Band, Choir, Jr Jazz Band, and Sr Jazz Band at the Secondary School level
• Major practicum/work experience in Music at the Secondary School level
• Secondary or middle teacher training with university level music training
• Eligible for B.C. Certification
• Satisfactory teacher evaluation and/or final practicum reports
