Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Municipal/Civil Engineer to join our Saint John, NB office. You’ll play a pivotal role in enhancing the municipal infrastructure that connects and supports our communities, while gaining hands-on experience alongside skilled professionals dedicated to client satisfaction.

As our ideal candidate, you bring a wealth of experience in civil engineering and a passion for leading municipal infrastructure projects. You have a strong track record of designing and managing projects related to water transmission and distribution, wastewater collection and pumping, stormwater infrastructure and management, transportation systems, and contract administration. With your expertise, you will play a key role in project planning, execution, and delivery while mentoring junior staff and contributing to the success of our multidisciplinary team.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Help Shape the Future of Municipal Infrastructure: Contribute to the design and planning of civil infrastructure projects, including water distribution, wastewater collection and pumping, sanitary sewer systems, and stormwater management facilities;
  • Craft with Precision: Assist in developing detailed design drawings and technical documentation using AutoCAD and Civil 3D;
  • Lead and Innovate: Provide technical leadership in project design, overseeing engineering calculations, refining design concepts, and ensuring project specifications align with client requirements and regulatory standards. Collaborate with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams to drive innovative solutions.
  • Oversee Site Operations: Conduct and lead site visits, field assessments, and infrastructure investigations. Provide technical guidance during construction, review contractor work for compliance, and support resident engineering services as needed.
  • Drive Project Success: Prepare and review technical reports, feasibility studies, cost estimates, and tender documents. Manage project deliverables, coordinate with clients and stakeholders, and contribute to business development efforts.

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Educational and Professional Credentials: A bachelor's degree in civil engineering (or related field) is required, with a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in civil or municipal engineering, preferably within a consulting environment. Proven experience leading infrastructure projects, managing client relationships, and overseeing project teams.
  • Technical/Design Expertise: Advanced proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, InfraWorks, WaterCAD, PCSWMM, and ArcMap. Experience with complex hydrologic modeling, site grading, stormwater management, and GIS applications is preferred.
  • Strategic Communication & Client Engagement: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations. Ability to liaise effectively with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
  • Organized and Detail-Oriented: Proven ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, maintain attention to detail, with the ability to thrive in a deadline-oriented environment;
  • Team Player: A collaborative mindset and a passion for contributing to a positive team environment.
