Job summary

City of Vernon is hiring a Bylaw Enforcement Officer to enforce municipal bylaws, respond to complaints, and support public safety across City assets. You will conduct investigations, patrols, and educational outreach, mentoring newer officers as needed.

The role requires driving with a BC Class 5 license and holding a Level 2 Advanced Bylaw Enforcement certificate. Hours: 28+ weekly, with a hourly rate of 46.09, plus benefits.

Qualifications

• Ability to learn all City bylaws, policies and procedures.
• Proficient with computers, databases and office equipment.
• Communicates courteously with the public, including agitated individuals.

Responsibilities

• Receives, processes, investigates complaints and enforces municipal bylaws.
• Resolves bylaw complaints using a progressive enforcement model.
• Promotes public safety through patrols and outreach.
• Responds to complaints affecting mentally ill or homeless populations.
• Documents records and prepares correspondence and reports.
