Job summary

The opportunity:

Join the Faculty of Arts Communications Team and help generate creative media to enhance impact awareness, student recruitment, internal and external engagement, event attendance, and research visibility. In this role, you will develop digital and print media, shoot, acquire, edit, and post photos, video, and audio content, manage social media channels, maintain branding standards, and produce compelling materials across a variety of platforms.

You will also support the faculty’s webpages including Drupal and SharePoint pages, advising on content and navigation best practices, and monitoring web and social media analytics. In addition, you will assist with communications projects and events, providing production, administrative, and audiovisual support to help deliver successful Faculty initiatives.

The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

  • Completion of a formal education/training program in graphic and digital design is required.
  • Four years directly related progressive experience including a minimum 1-year experience in print and digital graphic design required.
  • Experience working with a content management system required including experience in building pages and an understanding of UX and UI.
  • Experience with video, audio and photo equipment and software required.
  • Experience with content creation and planning for social media required.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Expert knowledge of graphics/publishing software including Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Express), and Acrobat Pro required.
  • Expert ability using photo and video equipment and software required.
  • Expert knowledge of website content management systems, (Drupal, SharePoint, and WordPress) and web development/coding (HTML, CSS, etc.) required.
  • Expert knowledge of social media platforms required.
  • Strong knowledge of direct email packages, event management software and survey software preferred.
  • Strong networking and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to deal effectively with multiple audiences (i.e., students, staff, academics, and members of the community) required.
  • Highly organized and efficient in a fast paced and diverse environment required.
  • Experience with the application of branding guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail is required.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and creativity is preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office, Forms, Teams and Zoom required.
  • Ability to effectively work within a team is an asset.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
  • Develop creative works for use across various digital and print platforms using Adobe Creative Suite tools or other equivalent software.
  • Develop and maintain templates, forms and the faculty’s image and logo libraries.
  • Shoot, acquire, edit and post photos, videos and audio.
  • Proofread, edit and revise content, ensuring copy is clear and effective.
  • Advise the Faculty on branding and visual identity guidelines to follow university standards.
  • Execute the social media strategy and calendar across various platforms.
  • Coordinate and maintain schedules for all recurring content distribution channels.
  • Build and maintain Faculty of Arts webpages, including Drupal and SharePoint pages.
  • Advise Faculty of Arts content owners on website architecture, navigation, content and adherence to university standards.
  • Monitor web traffic and analyze web metrics and social media analytics for reporting purposes.
  • Provide production support for print, web and digital projects.
  • Assist with events including the creation of materials, distribution of communications, room set up, audio/visual requirements, photography, etc.
  • Attend University and Faculty events in an administrative support role. Approximately 10-15 times per year events will take place outside of regular office hours.
