Job summary

The University of Manitoba is seeking a Program Assistant to support the Indigenous Data Team under Dr. Amanda Fowler-Woods.

You will help develop and implement a strategic plan for Indigenous data governance and the national network, manage milestones, timelines and budgets, and coordinate resources with HDRN Canada and the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy. Qualifications

  • Master's or higher in Indigenous health, Indigenous studies, Indigenous data governance, data governance, population health, health sciences, health policy, community health, public health, psychology or related fields with two years of directly related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant fields with five years of related experience.
  • Completion of a Community College course in Indigenous health, Indigenous studies, Indigenous data governance, data governance, population health, health sciences, health policy, community health, public health, psychology or social sciences with six years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and UNDRIP.

Responsibilities

  • Experience with project management or coordination required.
  • Experience with event organization required.
  • Experience with project documentation and navigating administrative processes.

The opportunity:

The program assistant will work under the guidance of Dr. Amanda Fowler-Woods, an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba and Lead of the Indigenous Data Team for the Health Data Research Network of Canada (HDRN Canada). The program assistant will collaborate with an Indigenous Research Associate in developing and implementing a strategic plan for the Indigenous Data Team. This work will involve supporting the development of a national network for Indigenous data governance and sovereignty. The program assistant will support development and operations of the network by managing milestones, timelines and budgets, coordinating resources with HDRN Canada and the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy at the University of Manitoba, scheduling and hosting events, and developing processes and templates for network communications, activities and products.

The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:
  • Master's degree in Indigenous health, Indigenous studies, Indigenous data governance, data governance, population health, health sciences, health policy, community health, public health, psychology, social sciences or related fields with two years of directly related experience.

OR

  • Bachelor's degree in an Indigenous health, Indigenous studies, Indigenous data governance, data governance, population health, health sciences, health policy, community health, public health, psychology, social sciences or related fields with five years of directly related experience.

OR

  • Completion of a Community College course in Indigenous health, Indigenous studies, Indigenous data governance, data governance, population health, health sciences, health policy, community health, public health, psychology, social sciences or related fields with six years of directly related experience.
  • Demonstrated history of commitment to advancing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), required.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous peoples in Canada, required.
  • Demonstrated engagement or collaboration with Indigenous partners in the community, academic, clinical, or government settings, required.
  • Experience with project management or coordination required.
  • Experience with event organization required.
  • Experience with project documentation, required.
  • Experience with navigating administrative processes, required.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous data sovereignty and governance, preferred.
  • Formal project management training and experience, preferred.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Independence and self-motivation required.
  • Ability to prioritize workload, required.
  • Effective communication is required.
  • Interpersonal (people) skills required.
  • Willingness to learn, required.
  • A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
  • Willingness to travel for national and international meetings.
