ROLE OVERVIEW

The Model Maker, Permanent Displays, brings engineering design to life through the use of specified materials, processes, and fabrication methods. They have a deep understanding of materials, the fabrication process, understanding of CAD drawings, and an eye for detail, enabling them to build what has been designed. The Model Maker can identify and solve challenges in collaboration with the designer, which may arise during the prototyping phase.

The Model Maker, Permanent Displays, manages multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and is flexible in adapting to constant challenges and changes.

This role is primarily on-site, with some flexibility at our Scarborough location. Occasional travel to customer installation sites for on-site installations.

HIGHLIGHTS OF WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Collaborate on prototype design consulting and fabricate high-quality prototypes based on CAD drawings.
  • Interpret and fully understand project requirements to ensure successful execution.
  • Consistently exceed client expectations by delivering exceptional products and services.
  • Accurately read and interpret design drawings for fabrication.
  • Utilize power tools for precision millwork and plastics fabrication.
  • Conduct prototype testing and prepare items for packing, following design specifications.
  • Operate CNC machines with expertise for efficient production.
  • Apply vinyl graphics with attention to detail and quality.
  • Perform thermoforming and mold making, both manually and via CNC.
  • Execute painting processes in the paint booth for flawless finishes.
  • Review and understand planograms to ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Design and create jigs to streamline production processes.
  • Install digital screens and LED lighting as part of engaging activations, as specified in the design.
  • Assist with in-store executions and installations to bring designs to life.
  • Provide support on permanent production projects as needed.
  • Take on related additional tasks as required

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • 5+ years of experience as a Model Maker/Fabricator in a millwork and plastics shop environment, specializing in precision fabrication and craftsmanship
  • Strong ability to interpret and fabricate from detailed design drawings with precision.
  • In-depth knowledge of various adhesives, glues, and mechanical fasteners for secure and durable builds.
  • Expertise in materials, processes, and fabrication techniques, particularly within a millwork and plastics shop environment.
  • Familiarity with thermoforming and mold making processes, both manually and with CNC.
  • Proficient in basic Windows computer operations for efficient workflow.
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management abilities to meet project deadlines.
  • Experience with 2D CNC programming and operation is a valuable asset.
  • Proficiency in CAD design, preferably using SolidWorks or similar software, is a plus but not required.
