Job summary

Seaspan ULC in North Vancouver seeks a Mobile Equipment Coordinator to oversee scheduling, utilization, and readiness of shipyard mobile equipment. This role reports to Operations and acts as a key liaison with facilities and supply chain to support production priorities.

You will monitor equipment availability, manage budgets, track costs, and ensure safety compliance with shipyard policies. On-site work at 2 Pemberton Avenue is required.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience coordinating or supervising heavy equipment operations in shipyard, industrial, construction or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience scheduling and managing equipment to support production or project work.
  • Familiarity with equipment utilization tracking and budget planning activities.
  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Logistics or related field is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for scheduling and allocation of mobile equipment to support shipyard production activities.
  • Monitor equipment availability and utilization to minimize downtime and ensure efficient deployment.
  • Serve as the primary contact for mobile equipment suppliers, operations, facilities, and supply chain teams.
  • Manage budgets and financial forecasting across mobile equipment demand.
  • Estimate and track cost impacts relating to equipment usage, rentals and downtime.
  • Analyze equipment utilization trends to support capacity planning and long-range needs.
  • Ensure all mobile equipment is inspected, certified and compliant with safety regulations.
  • Maintain equipment status, location, and readiness using logs and vendor applications.
  • Identify equipment conflicts or shortages and adjust inventory to avoid disruption to production.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance is carried out by suppliers and equipment remains safe and reliable.
  • Communicate daily equipment plans and updates to operations leadership.

Job Description

The Mobile Equipment Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the scheduling, utilization, and operational readiness of mobile equipment at Vancouver Shipyard. This role is critical to ensuring all mobile equipment is deployed efficiently, maintained in safe working condition and aligned with production priorities to support schedule. Co-located within Operations, the Mobile Equipment Coordinator is the key internal liaison between production, facilities and supply chain, as well as the key external liaison with strategic suppliers, maintaining strong communication and working relationships throughout.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What You’ll Do
  • Accountable for the scheduling and allocation of mobile equipment (e.g. cranes, forklifts, vehicles) to support shipyard production activities.
  • Responsible for monitoring equipment availability and utilization to minimize downtime and ensure efficient deployment across all works areas within the shipyard.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for mobile equipment suppliers, operations, facilities, and supply chain teams regarding mobile equipment needs and issues as they arise.
  • Accountable for associated budgets and financial forecasting across all mobile equipment demand within the shipyard, based on specific program schedules, work packages and milestones.
  • Estimate and track cost impacts relating to equipment usage, rentals and downtime to support program budgets and cost control efforts (EAC budget management).
  • Analyze equipment utilization trends to support capacity planning, rent versus buy decisions and long-range equipment needs.
  • Ensure all mobile equipment is inspected, certified and compliant with safety regulations in accordance with shipyard policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for equipment status, location, and readiness using appropriate logs, systems and vendor-managed applications.
  • In close collaboration with operations, identify equipment conflicts or shortages across programs and proactively adjust inventory levels to avoid disruption to production priorities.
  • Responsible for ensuring all preventative maintenance is carried out satisfactorily by the mobile equipment suppliers and that all equipment remains in a safe, reliable working condition.
  • Communicate daily equipment plans, constraints and updates to operations supervisors and shipyard leadership as needed.
  • Attend shipyard production meetings on a daily and weekly basis as needed.
  • May be required to approve invoices for payment or to support resolution of issues/discrepancies between invoice and order to facilitate payment.
What You’ll Bring
  • 5+ years of experience coordinating or supervising heavy equipment operations in a shipyard, industrial, construction or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience scheduling and managing equipment to support production or project work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain close-knit relationships with multiple stakeholders across a complex, fast paced business.
  • Working knowledge of mobile equipment such as cranes, forklifts, aerial lifts or similar industrial machinery.
  • Familiarity with equipment utilization tracking, forecasting demand, and supporting budget planning activities.
  • A diploma or bachelor's degree in Engineering, Logistics or related field is desirable.

The estimated salary for this position is $99,000 - $121,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
