Job summary

Seaspan Shipyards in North Vancouver is seeking a Ship Acceptance Specialist II to manage Objective Quality Evidence databases for new construction vessels. You will coordinate with Engineering and Supply Chain to map certificates, support acceptance strategies, and participate in customer/class reviews for OQEs.

Required are a engineering degree and the ability to obtain Reliability Status clearance, with 4–7 years in complex projects. Hybrid work is available after 90 days onsite.

Job Description

The Ship Acceptance Specialist II is responsible for the upkeep of Objective Quality Evidence databases for the new construction vessels under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) Package Programs. The personnel will assist the team towards delivering Objective Quality Evidences (OQE) which demonstrate that the work has been completed in accordance with the contract and the Ship Specification for new construction vessels and Class Rules. This role supports successful hand-over and project close out for new build vessels and coordinates submission of OQEs to the customer and Class. This role will mainly support the JSS1 and JSS2 programs.

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

What You’ll Do
  • Liaise with various teams to support progressive acceptance process during the build phase for new construction vessels.
  • Coordinate with other departments for required OQEs and ensure completeness of these OQEs, specifically on Class and Regulatory requirements.
  • Assist other specialists on Defects closing process as required.
  • Assist in the implementation of Acceptance Strategies for each vessel as required.
  • Work with Engineering and Supply Chain in mapping correct certificates to the certification requirements for both NSS programs.
  • Participate in deliverable review meetings with the Customer and Class to discuss submission of OQE and address their comments.
  • Submit OQEs to the customer for the acceptance of contractual requirements.
  • Maintain OQE metrics dashboards, SharePoint OQE data.
  • Record customer sign-off of requirements on the basis of progressive acceptance.
  • Action the rectification of deficiencies resulting from the non-acceptance of OQEs by the Customer and Class and track resolution.
  • Assist with the maintenance of the Ship Acceptance delivery schedule.
  • Assist with the implementation of key performance metrics to monitor burn-down rate of the requirements.
  • Work /Authors Quality document deliverables in accordance with the Prime (Customer's) Contract.
  • Provide guidance to Specialist 1 for upkeep OQE databases.
  • Support the team on Excel, Co-Console, Aras related issues.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
  • 4-7 years' experience with complex engineering projects involving diverse stakeholders or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a degree in a technical field of study.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Reliability Status security clearance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a changing, deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to work independently and address technical issues.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking, time management and project management skills.

The estimated salary for this position is $84,600 - $103,400. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
