Job description

Base Met Labs is a commercial laboratory specializing in the recovery of base and precious metals from raw mineralization. We are seeking a dedicated Mineralogy Lab Technician to join our team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct mineralogical sample preparation, including polished section preparation and other sample types.
• Approach tasks logically and systematically, with attention to detail in sample and polished section preparation.
• Operate Automated Mineralogy Instruments such as QEMSCAN and SEMs, including using relevant software.
• Manage sample and polished section flow between preparation and instrumentation, collaborating with the section preparation team.
• Coordinate with the Mineralogy Manager and mineralogists on project workflows.
• Operate SEM for imaging and spectra acquisition to support mineralogy projects.
• Assist mineralogists with data reporting using QEMSCAN software and Excel.
• Perform SEM filament exchanges, minor repairs, and troubleshooting.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Automated Mineralogy Instrument room.
• Update and write laboratory SOPs and related documentation.
• Use Microsoft Excel and Word proficiently.
• Identify and resolve quality control issues.
• Supervise sample preparation as needed.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment.
• Keep the laboratory and preparation areas clean and organized, working collaboratively as part of a team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Previous laboratory experience is preferred.

Salary & Benefits

The hourly salary range is $20 to $28. Compensation is based on skills, experience, and qualifications. Benefits include vacation, paid sick days, medical benefits, and more.
