Job summary

Redpath Mining seeks a Bolter for our operations in Red Lake, Northwestern Ontario. You will inspect underground headings, scale loose rocks, and install ground support to stabilize rock masses and ensure safe conditions.

You will operate hand-held pneumatic drills, LHDs, scissor trucks, and bolting equipment, following WHMIS rules and mine regulations. A 14/14 rotation with 12-hour shifts is required.

Qualifications

  • 3 years or more bolting experience with jackleg and stoper.
  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Core - Full Basic or provincial equivalent.
  • Ability to multi task and work both in a crew and independently.
  • Good communication skills and a strong safety mindset.
  • Adherence to company health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Identify unsafe conditions in underground headings.
  • Drill holes using hand-held pneumatic drills or drill-boom mounted on bolter.
  • Insert rock bolts following approved installation methods.
  • Install ground support components such as welded wire mesh and shotcrete.
  • Operate ground support equipment and coordinate with shift supervisors.

Location: Red Lake (Northwestern Ontario), Canada
Rotation: 14 days on, 14 days off
Shift Length: 12 hours
Salary Range: $118,000 - $168,000/annum, range is variable and dependent on overtime worked and production bonus paid
Travel: Commercial flight from airport closest to point of hire
Accommodations: Camp

The primary role of a Bolter is to inspect existing underground headings, scale loose rocks and install ground support to stabilize rock mass and ensure safety. The tasks may involve the operation of scaling bars, pneumatic hand-held drills, use of rubber-tired underground mobile equipment such as LHD (Load-Haul-Dump) units, scissor trucks, scoop or other support vehicles in a confined environment. This job would be primarily bolting from X-Lift

  • Proficient in Hand held drilling -Jackleg and Stoper
  • Installing 8' , 6' rebar, 6' split Sets, 6' , 8' Paddle bolts, 10' and 15' spin cables
  • Installing pipe/vent, operate scoop/drill with Jumbo if qualified
Responsibilities
General
  • Identify unsafe conditions in underground headings
  • Drill holes using hand-held pneumatic drills or drill-boom mounted on bolter
  • Insert rock bolt following approved method of installation
  • Install other ground support components as required such as welded wire mesh and shotcrete
  • Install or fix existing mine services such as vent tubing and pipes using various lifting equipment such as scissor trucks chain blocks and hand tools
  • Follow directives from shift supervisors to coordinate day to day ground control requirements
  • Assess all excavations and install ground support in development or reconditioned areas as per plan and section as the development progresses
  • Keep track of all advances and communicate to supervisors and cross shifts footages and volumes
  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner
  • Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and to control equipment damage

  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
  • Comply with the Mine Regulation Act and Regulations clauses that apply to your work area.
