Job summary

University of Waterloo is seeking a Mechanic I – Millwright to maintain and service campus HVAC and related mechanical systems. You will lead inspections, repairs and installations with focus on safety, accuracy and efficiency.

The role requires 5 years of millwright experience, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to read drawings. You will coordinate work with supervisors and support teams in a large institutional environment.

Qualifications

• Must have a minimum of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, a Certificate of Apprenticeship and Provincial Certificate of Qualification, Industrial Millwright.
• Five (5) years recent practical Millwrighting experience in the installation, operation and maintenance of industrial and commercial building HVAC, plumbing, piping and process equipment systems.

Responsibilities

• Performs inspections, maintenance and repairs of equipment used in campus heating and cooling applications with minimal supervision.
• Inspects, maintains and repairs equipment supporting centrally distributed or locally installed services for teaching and research.
• Replacement and alignment of pulleys, belts, shafts and couplings; balancing rotating equipment; sheet metal work, welding, brazing and fabrication of parts.
• Thermal insulation work and plumbing repairs; document all maintenance activities.
• Coordinate preventive and discretionary maintenance with supervisor; troubleshoot mechanical issues using testing devices.
• Read and interpret drawings and technical documentation.
