Job summary

University of Toronto is seeking a Microsoft 365 Solutions Architect to act as SME for SharePoint and other M365 services within Temerty Medicine. You will assess client requirements, analyze existing M365 solutions, and design technical improvements with strong security and governance.

You will lead design discussions, drive projects, and educate end users across a large academic community. The role requires deep knowledge of SharePoint, Power Platform, and related technologies such as SQL

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years of experience in a M365 Solutions Architect position (or similar) with M365 products, ideally in higher education.
  • Strong knowledge of M365 suite with Administration and Data Loss Prevention.
  • Demonstrated experience with SharePoint architecture and creating SharePoint solutions (apps, master pages, content types, workflows).
  • Demonstrated experience with Power Platform architecture and creating automations, flows, and solutions.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server, MS Windows Server, Azure, and Active Directory.
  • Experience writing complex specifications based on system requirements.
  • Strong communications skills to interact with both technical and non-technical users.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to work well in a team and as an individual contributor.

MedIT provides information technology support for the Temerty Faculty of Medicine. Our mission is to partner and collaborate with clients, University, and third parties to determine value based, sustainable technology solutions that enable the Faculty to achieve its academic mission. MedIT aims to provide enterprise IT services for the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, with a strong focus on utilization of the Microsoft 365 Platform.


The M365 Solutions Architect will serve as the Subject Matter Expert for the SharePoint platform and other M365 tools within Temerty Medicine. The M365 Solutions Architect will be responsible for understanding client requirements, analyzing existing M365 solutions, and developing technical solutions for system improvements to meet client needs. This role requires deep technical knowledge of the SharePoint product, M365 technologies, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will act as a technical lead to plan, triage, build, and advise on M365 design, implementation and improvement projects.


Your responsibilities will include


  • Acting as the SME for the M365 products to advise clients on best practices, meet end-user technical requirements, and evaluate systems to ensure needs are met

  • Facilitating design meetings for new M365 system processes

  • Analyzing the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems (i.e. SharePoint) and develop technical solutions for system improvements, while maintaining system security and integrity

  • Evaluating new technologies, product features, and/or modified business processes to determine and implement enhancements

  • Acting as the technical lead by leading/planning IT projects including developing project schedules, providing status updates to clients, and determining project resources/workflow

  • Responding to general M365 service needs from clients including providing detailed information on system specifications, drafting/editing training content, and training end-users on M365 uses and procedures

  • Developing and updating architectural framework for highly complex and confidential university-wide IT systems

  • Developing and editing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for M365 services


Essential Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.

  • Minimum five years of experience in a M365 Solutions Architect position (or similar) with specific experience with the M365 products, ideally in a higher education environment

  • Strong knowledge of M365 suite of products with experience in Administration and Data Sensitivity Labels and Data Loss Protection

  • Demonstrated experience with SharePoint architecture and creating SharePoint solutions including apps, master pages, custom page layouts, content types, workflows, and display templates for search

  • Demonstrated experience with Power Platform architecture and creating Power Platform automations, flows, and solutions

  • Possesses knowledge of related technologies such as SQL server, MS Windows Server, Azure, and Active Directory

  • Demonstrated experience with writing complex specifications based on system requirements

  • Strong communications skills (both oral and written) to communicate effectively with both highly-technical and non-technical users

  • Strong interpersonal to effectively work with a wide range of faculty, staff, and students

  • Ability to work well as a team member in multi-professional environment and as an individual contributor


Assets (Nonessential)


  • Work experience in a university, government, or healthcare setting would be considered an asset

  • Certifications such as Microsoft 365 Fundamentals, Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), and Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD), or Microsoft Certified: Information Protection Administrator would be strong assets
