The project you will be working on:

The Ontario Line (“OL”) is a fully integrated, stand-alone, rapid transit system connecting Ontario Science Centre to the Exhibition and Ontario Place grounds. The Northern Civil, Stations and Tunnel (“NC”) project includes approximately 7 km of underground subway and elevated guideway, with stations providing connections to surface bus and streetcar routes. The project is divided into two main design-build contracts: (1) Elevated Guideways and Stations Contract (“EGS”) and (2) Pape Tunnel and Underground Station Contract (“PTUS”), along with supporting Early Works.

Job Summary:

The MEP Construction Manager will oversee the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) aspects of construction projects, ensuring systems are installed according to specifications, codes, and safety standards. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and collaboration with stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Extensive expertise in Mechanical systems (HVAC and Building Automation), Electrical, Fire Suppression, and Fire Alarm systems, with proven on-site application to ensure proper installation, operation, and compliance with design specifications.
  • Manage and supervise all MEP installations on-site, ensuring adherence to project specifications, schedules, and budget constraints.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure seamless MEP system integration within the overall project design.
  • Manage the ICD related to MEP interface in construction.
  • Ensure coordination between MEP and other trades.
  • Review schedules and propose recovery plans.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of MEP work to ensure quality standards.
  • Identify and resolve issues related to MEP systems, providing technical guidance and solutions.
  • Supervise and mentor MEP managers and coordinators, promoting best practices in installation and safety.
  • Maintain financial oversight of projects, ensuring budget compliance and managing deliverables.
  • Review progress billing for trades.
  • Prepare progress reports highlighting milestones, challenges, and solutions.

Work Conditions:

  • Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License G or G2.
  • Mobility required; willingness to travel across Toronto for site visits.
  • Extended hours, including weekends and holidays, may be necessary to meet deadlines.

Desired Skills and Knowledge:

  • Diploma, degree, or post-graduate certificate in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Technology.
  • 8-10 years of experience in infrastructure, with a successful project execution record.
  • Experience managing large, complex projects, especially in joint ventures.
  • Ability to identify, document, and resolve conflicts efficiently.
  • Experience in transit projects is a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in reading technical drawings and design details.
  • Knowledge of trades and practices in commercial construction.
  • Familiarity with government regulations and standards.
  • Proficiency in construction management software and MS Office.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Independent and collaborative work skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
