Job Summary

This posting will be used to fill 1 auxiliary-on-call (AOC) position. It will establish a 6-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions. This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the Yukon.

Who We Are

The Government of Yukon\'s Mental Wellness and Substance Use Services division is known for its innovative, holistic, trauma informed and culturally accessible approach to providing mental health and substance use supports to all Yukoners. We aim to provide clients with the highest level of care and a healthy workplace for staff. Mental Wellness and Substance Use Services offers a goal focused approach to providing harm-reduction or recovery-based services for all individuals seeking to reduce the symptoms of mental wellness and/or substance use issues.

Your role

Reporting to the administrative Supervisor, this position provides program and administrative assistance to ensure effective and efficient support to programs, services and activities of Mental Wellness Substance Use Branch as they are delivered at the Referred Care Clinic (including a walk in opioid treatment services, OTS), with both medical office reception and assistant services. The primary responsibility is providing support to the clinic health professionals and the clinic clients/patients, while maintaining the legal and ethical bounds of client/patient confidentiality.

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with the public, internal and external stakeholders. In addition, this person needs to have the ability to work in a high-stress environment that may require responding to difficult and aggressive clients (yelling, using, and showing physical and/or verbal aggression).

Essential for this role is an understanding and appreciation that clients access our services during very challenging times in their lives. While it is not the job of the medical office assistant to provide clinical support, it may be your role to provide a listening ear, help connect clients to the services they need while they are in a heightened emotional state, be comfortable working in a medical clinic environment. As the first face of our organization that clients can see, or the first voice they hear when they call, it is critical that you are approachable, friendly, kind and trauma informed.
