Job summary

Interior Health Authority in Kamloops, British Columbia, seeks a Relief Full-Time Medical Office Assistant to support patient care in a busy clinic at Thompson Park Mall. The role requires a Medical Office Assistant Certificate and a typing test (40+ NWPM) with two years of related experience.

Hours are rotating days (08:30–16:30). You will perform clerical duties such as scheduling, data entry, and medical record keeping, while providing compassionate patient service.

Qualifications

  • Typing test (40+ NWPM) must have been completed in the last 24 months.
  • Medical Office Assistant Certificate is required.
  • Resume showing two years of related experience.
  • Cover Letter stating availability to start and on-call.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients and schedule/confirm appointments.
  • Answer telephones, handle correspondence, and maintain records.
  • Data entry and word processing, and manage medical billings.
  • Balance revenue transactions and manage medical/surgical supplies.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare instruments.
  • Sterilize equipment and dispose of supplies properly.

Interior Health is seeking a Relief Full-Time Medical Office Assistant to join our team in Kamloops, British Columbia. This position is based at Thompson Park Mall and offers an exciting opportunity to support patient care in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Hours of work are rotating days – 08:30 to 16:30

Days Of Work: Mon Tues 1st week, Mon Tues Wed 2nd week

Days Off: Sun, Thurs, Fri, Sat, STAT

What Will You Work On?

In this role you will perform a variety of medical office assistant and clerical duties such as:

  • Registering patients – including scheduling and confirming appointments
  • Answering telephones, general correspondence, record keeping, chart notes, reports, medical billings
  • Data entry and word processing, graphic and database applications,
  • Compiling and entering statistical information,
  • Writing correspondence including: recording, transcribing and typing forms
  • Balancing and checking revenue transactions
  • Managing medical/surgical supplies and equipment and other resource material.
  • Escorting patients to examination/treatment rooms and ensuring appropriate instruments, procedure trays or other supplies are set up;
  • Attending sensitive examination procedures and treatments; routine measurements - weight, BMI calculations, eye exams, urinalysis.
  • Cleaning and sterilizing medical equipment and instruments as well as delivery and disposal of supplies, biological, material and equipment
What should your application include?
  • A 5-minute typing test (40+ NWPM) from a recognized institution, completed within the past 24 months (non-supervised tests not accepted)
  • A Medical Office Assistant Certificate;
  • Your Resume outlining two year’s recent related experience, Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
  • A Cover Letter stating your availability to start in a new position and on-call, casual work (i.e. days of the week).
