Job description

Within the Physician Assistant Program, the Medical Leader will:

  1. Lead strategic planning and implementation of sustainable models of care involving PAs, including expanded weekday, evening, weekend, and on-call service coverage.
  2. Maintain a current AHS email and review messages regularly to support consistent and reliable communication.
  3. Assist in the development and optimization of program structure and remuneration models for the PA workforce.
  4. Participate in activities such as acting as a liaison and support for physicians supervising or working alongside PAs, contributing to program development, operational implementation, and ongoing evaluation.
  5. Support recruitment, assessment, and evaluation of PAs and supervising physicians, providing feedback for model refinement and scope optimization.
  6. Collaborate with AHS Medical Affairs and CPSA to standardize PA evaluation and supervision processes.
  7. Meet monthly with the Medical Affairs Program Manager to discuss PA performance, professional conduct, clinical environment, supervision models, onboarding, workforce planning, access to systems, quality initiatives, and emerging issues.
  8. Work collaboratively to develop innovative coverage models that enhance continuity of care and support physician capacity.
  9. Participate in leadership committees to foster program alignment and communication across the Calgary Zone.
  10. Ensure objectives align with high standards of care, education, and team-based practice.
  11. Lead efforts to enhance physician-PA relationships, communication, and interprofessional integration.
  12. Support investigations related to PA performance or behavior as requested.
  13. Fulfill responsibilities as per AHS Bylaws, Rules, and delegated by the Zone Medical Director.
