Job summary

University Health Network in Toronto is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist for Pathology in the Laboratory Medicine Program. Join a large diagnostic lab with a focus on innovation, education, and patient care.

The role involves 24/7 shifts across all sites, with opportunities to contribute to ground-breaking research and collaborative projects. Required are a recognized MLT program completion and active CMLTO registration, plus 1 year in Histology and Immunohistochemistry.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Technologist program.
  • Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (CMLTO).
  • Minimum 1 year of Histology laboratory experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of Immunohistochemistry laboratory experience.
  • Ability to develop skills across all laboratory areas.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, troubleshoot and maintain cleanliness of laboratory equipment and work area.
  • Prepare written and electronic reports documenting procedures and results.
  • Participate in teaching, safety and quality improvement programs.
  • Adhere to hospital and department policies and procedures.

The division of Laboratory Medicine Program specializes in performing laboratory procedures for all disciplines and functions and ensuring the completion of assigned workload. As a valued member of Team LMP, you will play a key role in adhering to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Duties

  • Operating, troubleshooting and maintaining cleanliness of laboratory equipment and work area
  • Preparing written and electronic reports required to document procedures and test results
  • Participating in teaching, educational, safety and quality improvement programs
  • Observing and understanding Hospital and departmental policies and procedures
  • Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Technologist program, required
  • Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (CMLTO), required
  • Current laboratory experience in Histology required, minimum 1 year required
  • Current laboratory experience in Immunohistochemistry, minimum 1 year required
  • Demonstrates ability to develop skill and knowledge in all areas of the laboratory (on-the-job experience)
  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of laboratory procedures, instruments, equipment and special techniques (on-the-job experience), in assigned area
  • Excellent problem recognition and problem solving-skills
  • Effective time management skills; ability to organize work and set priorities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work accurately under stressful conditions
  • Knowledge of applicable Hospital and departmental policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols and practices
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education
  • Ability to coach technical staff
