Job summary

Interior Health is seeking an experienced Community Hospital Operations Supervisor, Medical Laboratory Technologist for Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie, BC. You will supervise a small lab team, mentor staff and coordinate daily inpatient and outpatient activities in a fast-paced environment.

You will provide technical guidance with pathology specialists and leaders, drive process improvements, ensure accreditation and safety standards, and support staff development in a dynamic hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved Medical Laboratory Science Program.
  • Registration in CAMLPR pathways or CSMLS certification.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ recent experience as a general duty technologist.
  • Minimum of one (1) year recent leadership experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable

About the Job

Supervise, mentor and coach a small team of laboratory staff and coordination of daily inpatient/outpatient activities. Provide technical guidance to lab staff in conjunction with Specialists and leadership. Facilitates workplace solutions and promotes continuous learning. Coordinates the implementation of processes and procedures, standards, goals and objectives. Ensure that policies, procedures, accreditation and safety standards are maintained.

This is a Relief Full Time (1.00) opportunity until June 30, 2028, or the return of the incumbent.

Shifts of work will be scheduled rotating days, evenings and nights.

Fields of Practice: Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, & Transfusion Medicine.

Qualfications
  • Graduation from an approved Medical Laboratory Science Program.
  • Successful completion of recognized competency assessment exam and registration in the relevant field(s) of practice in accordance with the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) pathways, or certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ recent experience as a general duty technologist in a medical laboratory
  • Minimum of one (1) year recent leadership experience
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the facility
