Interior Health is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technologist to join the Medical Laboratory Department at Kelowna General Hospital in Kelowna, BC. The role focuses on routine and complex tests within clinical microbiology, under supervision, in a dynamic, team-based setting.

  • Graduation from an approved Medical Laboratory Science Program.
  • CSMLS certification or CAMLPR registration.
  • One year of recent related experience.

Responsabilidades

  • Perform routine and/or complex tests utilizing manual procedures and automated instruments in the laboratory.
  • Greet patients and collect and/or receive specimens, enter data into the LIS and related systems, validate and report results.
  • Maintain instruments and prepare solutions and control agents according to procedures and safety standards.
  • Participate in departmental training programs to learn new/existing tests and procedures across lab sections.

About the Job

In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, within the context of client-centred care, and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, policies, procedures, this position works in a team based environment and under general supervision of the Operations Supervisor, Professional Practice Leader or other designated personnel performs a variety of routine and/or complex tests utilizing manual procedures and automated instruments within the laboratory. Position is also responsible for functions such as greeting patients, collecting and/or receiving specimens, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and related computer systems/programs, validating and reporting test results, maintaining instruments and preparing solutions and control agents in accordance with established procedures and safety standards. Participates in departmental training programs in individual or all sections of the lab (such as, microbiology, histology, cytology, etc.) with a view to learning new/existing tests and procedures for use in the Laboratory.

Field of practice for this position is

Clinical Microbiology

This is a Relief Part Time (0.55 FTE) position.
Shifts of work will be scheduled rotating days and nights.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from an approved Medical Laboratory Science Program.
  • Successful completion of recognized competency assessment exam and registration in the relevant field(s) of practice in accordance with the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) pathways, or certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • One (1) year recent related experience.
