About the Role
You’ll be an integral part of a patient-centred laboratory team, performing and analyzing diagnostic tests that directly impact patient care. Your work will span core lab disciplines, with a focus on hematology, biochemistry, and transfusion medicine.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic testing: Conduct a variety of lab tests (manual and automated)
- Ensure accuracy & compliance: Validate results, troubleshoot discrepancies, and follow strict quality control protocols.
- Operate & maintain lab equipment: Calibrate instruments, perform routine maintenance, and address technical issues.
- Handle specimens with care: Collect, process, and store samples while maintaining integrity and safety standards.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams: Communicate findings, assist with urgent testing, and contribute to efficient lab operations.
- Support lab operations: Manage inventory, maintain records, and adhere to safety and infection control policies.
Qualifications
- Education: 4-year degree in Medical Laboratory Science from an approved Medical Laboratory Science Program, covering hematology/coagulation, chemistry (biochemistry & immunology), transfusion medicine, microbiology, and histopathology.
- Certification: Eligible for membership with the BC Society of Laboratory Science BCSLS and/or CSMLS certification (Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science).
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of hands-on work in a clinical lab, with expertise in core lab areas (hematology, biochemistry, and transfusion medicine).
- Skills: Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, proficiency with lab information systems (LIS), and comfort with the use of Meditech and Windows-based programs.
- Language: Professional working proficiency in English (additional languages are an asset).
