Responsibilities

As part of our multidisciplinary team, you will:

  • Obtain laboratory samples from patients.
  • Perform procedures and analyze results following SOPs.
  • Prepare solutions, reagents, and controls for analysis.
  • Respond to test result inquiries and communicate findings effectively.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments, report malfunctions.
  • Assist in evaluating and developing technical procedures and policies.

Qualifications

  • Certification from the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
  • Experience or training in Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Transfusion Medicine, Histology, Cytology, Cytogenetics, and Molecular Diagnostics. New graduates are welcome.
  • Strong communication skills, adaptability, and dedication to patient care.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous health contexts, anti-racism, and cultural safety principles, with a commitment to equity and systemic change.

Core Competencies & Skills

  • Understanding of Indigenous-specific racism and systemic barriers in healthcare.
  • Knowledge of legislation and commitments like the TRC Calls to Action, UNDRIP, and BC’s Declaration Act.
  • Ability to foster a culturally safe environment, address biases, and engage in anti-racism initiatives.
  • Technical proficiency in laboratory procedures, quality control, and safety.
  • Effective communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
