Job summary

Northern Health in Prince George, BC invites applications for a Medical Laboratory Technologist in our Laboratory department. You will perform technical work in laboratory test procedures and contribute to accurate results and reports under supervision.

The role covers rotating on-call duties including evenings, nights and weekends, and requires CAMLPR or CSMLS certification and current experience in the designated disciplines.

Qualifications

• Certification with CAMLPR path or CSMLS is required.
• One-year recent related experience in the designated discipline within the last six years or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures, quality control and safety.

Position Summary

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of the Manager or designate, the Medical Laboratory Technologist performs technical work involved in the duties associated with laboratory test procedures. In addition, the Medical Laboratory Technologist evaluates and verifies results and prepares related reports.

Relevant Fields of Practice

Relevant Fields of Practice needed for this position are: Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine (Science), Clinical Microbiology, Histology.

This position is required to share rotating on call through evenings, nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of recognized competency assessment exam and registration in the relevant field(s) of practice in accordance with the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) pathways, or certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).


• One-year recent related experience in the designated discipline within the last six years, and/or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated recent working knowledge of the assigned section or sections.


• Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures, and technical competence to perform tests used in the assigned section of the laboratory, including quality control and safety.


• Basic awareness of research processes.


• Demonstrates interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.


• Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.


• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.


• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a constantly changing environment.


• Basic knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care using point of care instrumentation.


• Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment and software, including techniques appropriate to the designated area of the laboratory.


• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
