Job summary

Northern Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support specimen collection, preparation, testing, and clerical lab duties. The role includes ECG and Holter testing as needed, with attention to test explanations and routine equipment cleaning and maintenance.

Based in Fort St. John, BC, you will contribute to hospital and community lab services, collaborating with a dedicated team to ensure quality care and patient safety in a dynamic health system.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 with Lab Assistant training program and one year related experience or equivalent.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to organize work and operate laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, the Laboratory Assistant performs specimen collection, preparation and testing, and performs related clerical and other laboratory support functions. Performs inpatient and/or outpatient Electro Cardiogram (ECG) testing, and/or Holter monitor testing as required, and explains test procedures. Performs routine equipment cleaning and maintenance.

Shift Rotation/Hours of work

Days, 06:00 to 14:00, 07:00 to 15:00, 08:00 to 16:00, 12:00 to 20:00, 13:00 to 21:00, 16:00 to 00:00 (rotating)

Qualfications

• Grade 12, successful completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program plus one (1) year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
• Ability to organize work.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Ability to type at 25 w.p.m.
