Job summary

Interior Health Authority is seeking an experienced Medical Laboratory Technologist to join the Castlegar District Health Centre in Castlegar, BC. The role spans clinical chemistry, haematology and transfusion medicine within a team-based laboratory environment.

Shifts rotate days and evenings in a permanent full-time position, offering career growth, training opportunities and a strong commitment to well-being and work-life balance within the Interior Health region.

Qualifications

  • Experience in performing routine and complex tests in a laboratory setting.
  • Ability to greet patients, collect/receive specimens, and enter data into LIS.
  • Willingness to rotate through departments such as microbiology, histology, and cytology to learn procedures.

  • Perform a variety of routine and/or complex tests using manual procedures and automated instruments.
  • Validate and report test results to stakeholders.
  • Maintain instruments and prepare solutions and controls per procedures and safety standards.

About The Job

In accordance with established vision and values of the organization, within the context of client-centred care, and in accordance with established standards of professional practice, policies, procedures, this position works in a team based environment and under general supervision of the Operations Supervisor, Professional Practice Leader or other designated personnel performs a variety of routine and/or complex tests utilizing manual procedures and automated instruments within the laboratory. Position is also responsible for functions such as greeting patients, collecting and/or receiving specimens, entering data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and related computer systems/programs, validating and reporting test results, maintaining instruments and preparing solutions and control agents in accordance with established procedures and safety standards. Participates in departmental training programs in individual or all sections of the lab (such as, microbiology, histology, cytology, etc.) with a view to learning new/existing tests and procedures for use in the Laboratory.

Field of practice for this position is: Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Medicine (Science)

This is a Permanent Full Time (1.0) position.

Shifts of work will be scheduled rotating days and evenings.
