Job summary

Providence Care Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to ensure safe, accurate specimen collection from the point of contact to data entry, phlebotomy, and final preparation for transportation. This position operates under the direct supervision of the Medical Laboratory Technologist.

Responsibilities include obtaining specimens, coordinating referrals for analysis, supporting Point of Care Testing, maintaining equipment, and upholding privacy and security policies in a sub-acute

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistants/Technician training program.
• Experience in phlebotomy.
• Experience working with elderly clients and individuals with disabilities is an asset.

• Obtains blood and urine specimens from inpatients, outpatients, and staff as requested by Occupational Health Services.
• Prepares samples and coordinates referral of specimens to licensed laboratories for analysis and distribution of results.
• Supports Point of Care Testing programs.
• Maintains equipment, inventory, and a safe laboratory environment.
• Adheres to all departmental and organizational privacy and security policies.

Location: Providence Care Hospital

Wage: $30.49 - $35.15

The Medical Laboratory Technician is primarily responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient collection of client specimens from the point of initial contact with the client to data entry, phlebotomy, and to the final preparation of specimens for transportation. These procedures do not require interpretation assessment or the exercise of independent judgment. The procedures are performed under the direct supervision of the Medical Laboratory Technologist.

Skills and Qualifications Required:

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistants/Technician training program
• Experience in phlebotomy
• Experience in working with elderly clients and individuals with a variety of disabilities an asset
