Job summary

Kingston Health Sciences Centre is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Technologist in Histopathology for a temporary ~12-month role at Kingston General Hospital Site. The position involves assisting in processing, analysis, and reporting of samples, with rotating shifts and a wage range of $38.80–$52.91 per hour.

Ideal candidates hold a General MLT certification, demonstrate strong technical and communication skills, and can work collaboratively within the Clinical Laboratory Services team

Qualifications

• Applicants must hold a College of Medical Laboratory Technology certificate of registration as a General Medical Laboratory Technologist (Biochemistry, Bacteriology, Histology, Hematology, Immunohematology).

Responsibilities

• Performs accessioning, specimen handling and processing.
• Performs repeat testing where required.

• Ensures efficient use of laboratory supplies and reagents.
• Monitors inventory and alerts when re-orders are needed.
• Performs and documents routine equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Provides guidance to Laboratory Assistants as needed.
• May take on higher classification duties when requested.
• Develops or assists in implementing new methodologies.
• Participates in evaluations and research activities as required.
• Assists Pathologists and Laboratory Physicians in delegated medical acts.

DESCRIPTION:

Within the laboratories of KingstonHealth Sciences Centre, incumbents will support an environment of quality service reflective of the Mission, Vision, Philosophy, and Values ofKHSC, which enables the Clinical Laboratory Services Team to be “committed to our communities, and to be the most highly valued and respected academic health centre”. Incumbents of the laboratories willassistin carrying out the strategic direction of the Department through helping with the continual improvement of patient focused services. Incumbents willassistinidentifyingopportunities for improvement,facilitateand implement Departmental Continuous Improvement initiatives by challenging the process, inspiring a shared vision, enabling other to act, modelling the way, and encouraging the heart. Incumbents willparticipateand/orfacilitatework related committees for process improvement, accreditation, or other as required. The incumbent is energized by change.

Performs laboratory analyses requiring technical skills and knowledge. Exercise independent judgment ontesting ona variety of specimens.Provide assistance toPathologists, LaboratoryPhysiciansand Laboratory Scientists in performing certain delegated medical acts related to the laboratory discipline in which the incumbent is assigned.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs accessioning,specimenhandlingand processing.

• Develops or assists in developing new methodologies and assists in implementing new methodologies.
• Performs evaluation,cross overstudies and other research and development activities asrequired.
• Provides assistance toPathologists, LaboratoryPhysiciansand Laboratory Scientists in performing certain delegated medical acts related to the laboratory discipline in which the incumbent is assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Applicants are required to produce a certificate of registration from the College of Medical Laboratory Technology of Ontario as a General Medical Laboratory Technologist, i.e., registration in Biochemistry, Bacteriology, Histology, Hematology and Immunohematology.
