Job summary

LifeLabs in Surrey, BC is seeking detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technologists to perform clinical testing, quality control, and analyzer maintenance across laboratory disciplines. The successful candidate will uphold quality, safety, and regulatory standards while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Position is permanent, regular part time (0.6 FTE, 22.5 hours/week) with a rotating schedule. Preference for recent microbiology experience; union BCGEU.

Qualifications

• Analytical, problem-solving and organizational abilities are essential.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Registration through CAMLPR pathways or CSMLS certification is required.
• Proficiency with MS Windows-based systems and laboratory software.
• Experience in clinical microbiology is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical testing and release accurate patient results per protocols.
• Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot analyzers and equipment.
• Conduct and monitor quality control procedures and resolve discrepancies.
• Validate new reagent lots and support implementation of new methods.
• Utilize LIS for specimen processing, test management and reporting.
• Participate in external proficiency testing and validations.
• Maintain specimen handling and test-specific protocols per guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with quality standards, safety policies and WHMIS.
• Support training, documentation updates and process improvements.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and organizational information.

Position Summary

We are seeking detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technologists to perform clinical testing, quality control, and analyzer maintenance to ensure accurate and timely patient results across laboratory disciplines. The successful candidate will uphold laboratory quality, safety, and regulatory standards while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Status: Permanent, Regular Part Time with a set rotation (0.6 FTE = 22.5 hours per week)

Discipline: Microbiology; Employees may be cross trained in different departments.

Shift: Variable hours between 0500-0030; Variable Sunday through Saturday - may change with operational needs.

The rotation is as follows: Week 1: Mon, Fri, Sat Week 2: Sun, Mon, Fri Week 3: Mon, Fri, Sat Week 4: Sun, Mon, Fri Week 5: Mon, Fri, Sat Week 6: Sun, Mon, Fri.

Additional Information: Experience within the last 5 years in Microbiology preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform clinical testing and release accurate patient results in accordance with established protocols.
• Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and equipment.
• Conduct and monitor quality control procedures; investigate and resolve discrepancies.

• Maintain expertise in specimen handling, critical values, rejection criteria, storage requirements, and test-specific protocols.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory quality standards, safety policies, WHMIS, and chemical hygiene regulations.
• Support team effectiveness through training, documentation updates, and process improvement initiatives.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and organizational information.

Qualifications

• Registration through CAMLPR pathways or certification with CSMLS.
• Recent experience in the relevant laboratory discipline is preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in MS Windows-based systems and laboratory software.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
