Medical Director, Student Health Services
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Medical Director, Student Health Services for the Rutgers Student Health – Hurtado Health Center. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor – Health and Wellness in the Division of Student Affairs, the Medical Director provides leadership and manages clinical medical operations for Rutgers Student Health.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Provides direct primary care for eligible patients and ensures appropriate medical services are offered to Rutgers New Brunswick students.
- Accountable for and provides supervision of all medical clinical services across three student health centers as well as off-site clinical activities (i.e., immunization clinics) and clinical outreach activities.
- Participates in credentialing and privileging for all clinical staff. Responsible for fiscal stewardship of the RSH budget.
- Provides direct supervision to the Associate Director of Medical Services, Nurse Supervisor, Lab Coordinator, Assistant Director of Health Information Management & Patient Services, staff physicians, and dotted line supervision of the Assistant Director, Integrated Care.
- Provides indirect supervision to all medical staff.
- Collaborates and delegates physician for advanced practice nurses and physician assistants.
- Responsible for medical clinical policy and medical clinical guideline and procedure review.
- Supervises all clinical medical quality improvement programs and initiatives for Rutgers Student Health. Key participant in the clinical accreditation process.
- Key member of the Assistant Vice Chancellor’s health and wellness leadership team addressing health and wellness initiatives and public health outreach.
- Participates on multiple RSH and Division of Student Affairs Committees.
- Works closely with the CAPS director to ensure consistent holistic care across medical and mental health services.
- Represents Rutgers Student Health within the Division of Student Affairs and the larger Rutgers community.
- Works closely with the NJ State Department of Health and external agencies to mitigate public health threats and provide emergency and disaster planning.
Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience:
- M.D. or D.O.
- Licensed to practice medicine in New Jersey; Board Certification in an appropriate primary care field or medical specialty discipline.
- Ten (10) years of professional clinical experience exclusive of internship and residency in the practice of medicine.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Licensed to practice medicine in New Jersey; Board Certification in an appropriate primary care field or medical specialty discipline.
- Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license is required for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Three (3) years of professional administrative experience in an ambulatory, medical group, healthcare setting.
- Computer competency that includes Electronic Health Records (EHRs), electronic patient management systems, word processing, and spreadsheets.
- Experience with diverse populations.
- Experience with late adolescent/young adult patient care.
