Job Description

This position handles a high volume of dictating letters for staff MD, fellows, residents and geneticists. The medical dictatypist is responsible for the transcription, correction, copying, filing and mailing of medical consultation letters to referring physicians via fax, email and internal/external mail. Maintenance of database of standard letter templates and articles for SPP physicians and genetics.

About the Special Pregnancy Program:
This specialized clinic-style unit is a part of Mount Sinai Hospital with two convenient sites at 700 and 600 University Avenue that run Monday to Friday. The program is a comprehensive service, dedicated to enhancing the well-being of both the mother and the fetus. We offer a range of services, including fetal ultrasound, assessment, early detection, in-utero therapy, and treatment. Collaborating with SickKids, our program delivers expert care in addressing fetal anomalies and in-utero surgical procedures. Our primary focus is on the early identification of various conditions, such as preterm birth, fetal anomalies, placental health issues, and infectious diseases. Through timely surgical consultations and interventions, we aim to improve the long-term health outcomes for neonates.


In this role you will:

  • Assistwith records management
  • Actas a Health Records and Recall contact person
  • Manage recordsfor inpatient SPP and outpatient
  • Providebackup support for Ambulatory Women's and Infants'
  • Coordinate Health Program administration
  • Assist with reception duties answering telephone calls, scheduling patient appointments, faxing and coordinating patient specialist referrals, filling of patient charts and diagnostic results
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

Mandatory

  • Completion of medical secretary program or business college equivalent
  • 2 - 3 years recent secretarial experience in a high volume ambulatory setting


Skills and Knowledge

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Excellent knowledge of medical terminology
  • Recent and significant experience in medical dictatyping
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills which includes setting priorities
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as a part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrated maturity and an ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff, patients and their families
  • Ability to be compassionate with patients/couples with pregnancy complications
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
