Job summary

Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KHSC) is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist – Genetics to join the Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics team in Kingston, ON. The role focuses on accessioning, specimen handling and performing specialized testing to support diagnostic genetic analyses.

You will verify test results, communicate critical findings, and contribute to quality control, equipment maintenance, and inventory management while collaborating with Pathologists, physicians and scientists

Qualifications

• Current registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) with endorsement in Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-team collaboration.
• Demonstrated critical thinking, sound judgment and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform accessioning, specimen handling and processing.
• Conduct specialized testing within Cytogenetics and/or Molecular Genetics.
• Review and verify test results before reporting.
• Communicate critical/abnormal results per procedures.
• Carry out repeat testing and troubleshoot as needed.
• Document quality control and quality assurance activities.

What You Will Do

In this role, you will:

• Perform accessioning, specimen handling, and processing
• Conduct specialized laboratory testing within Cytogenetics and/or Molecular Genetics
• Review and verify test results, ensuring accuracy prior to reporting and release
• Communicate critical and abnormal results in accordance with established procedures
• Carry out repeat testing and troubleshoot as required
• Perform and document quality control and quality assurance activities
• Maintain equipment, complete routine maintenance, and support minor troubleshooting
• Monitor and manage supplies and inventory to support efficient lab operations
• Support and guide Laboratory Assistants as needed
• Contribute to method development, validation, and implementation of new technologies
