Job summary

Norsat International Inc. is seeking a Mechatronics Engineer to design, plan, research, evaluate, and test electrical and electronic equipment and systems on-site at our Richmond, BC location.

You will work on RF-focused components and systems, including amplifiers and synthesizers, with emphasis on integration and testing. Responsibilities include research, design, modeling, and supervising installation and testing of RF/electronic systems.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Minimum 5 years of RF design experience.
  • Rich experience designing RF components (power amplifiers, synthesizers).
  • Strong knowledge of EM theory.
  • Design experience for RF circuits >10 GHz.
  • Hands-on with schematic capture & PCB layout.
  • Hands-on circuit building, integration, testing and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct feasibility, design operation, and performance research of RF/electronic systems.
  • Prepare material estimates, reports and design specifications.
  • Design RF/electronic components and systems.
  • Model and simulate nanodevices, characterize, and integrate new devices.
  • Supervise installation, inspection, and operation of systems.

Summary

As a Mechatronics Engineer, you will be designing, plan, research, evaluate, and test electrical and electronic equipment and systems.

What You’ll Do
  • Conduct research into the feasibility, design operation and performance research of electrical generation and components and electronic communications, instrumentations and control systems, equipment and components.
  • Prepare material cost and timing estimates, reports and design specifications.
  • Design electrical and electronic components, systems and equipment.
  • Conduct micro or nanodevices simulations, characterization, process modeling and integration in the development of new electronic devices and products.
  • Supervise and inspect the installation and operation of electrical and electronic systems and equipment.
  • Develop maintenance and operating standards for electrical and electronic systems and equipment.
  • Investigate electrical or electronic failures.
  • Prepare contract documents and evaluate tenders for construction or maintenance.
  • Supervise technicians, technologists, programmers, analyst and other engineers.
What You’ll Bring
  • BSc in Electrical Engineering;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in RF design;
  • Rich experience designing RF components, especially power amplifiers, synthesizers and related circuitry;
  • Good knowledge of EM theory;
  • Design Experience for RF circuits for frequencies above 10GHz.
  • Hands-on experience with schematic capture & PCB layout;
  • Hands-on experience building, integrating and troubleshooting circuits;
  • Hands-on experience testing RF circuits and components;
  • Experience designing waveguide components and analog and digital circuitry;
  • Thorough understanding of RF assembly processes;
  • Experience with the following software: ADS, EMPro, HFSS, Altium, Waspnet;
