As a part of this, Ayrton is looking to hire a dynamic Mechatronics Engineer to help develop our technology into a commercial product.

You will love this job if:

  • You enjoy working on the frontier of energy systems technology development, where the answers aren't always clear, and you get to find new solutions to challenges being faced for the first time
  • You thrive in fast-paced technology development environments where practical problem-solving is valued and are comfortable in engineering offices, shop and lab environments
  • You have a proven track record of taking ownership of projects from concept through build, testing, and deployment
  • You quickly identify issues and implement efficient, cost-effective solutions
  • You want to work with a small, highly motivated team where everyone contributes beyond their job title

  • Specify, source, and evaluate electrical and instrumentation components
  • Work hands on to integrate and commission the controls and electrical systems into prototype equipment for testing
  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Tech Dev teams to rapidly develop and improve products
  • Generate design documentation including controls narratives, cause-and-effect matrices and schematics to enable successful design review and manufacture
  • Lead root-cause investigations and implement control system improvements that increase reliability and performance
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements
  • Support hazard reviews, risk assessments, and safe operating procedures

What Success Looks Like After 12 Months:

  • You have played a key role in commissioning and validating Ayrton Energy's demonstration system in the field
  • You have developed robust, well-integrated controls for our next-generation test equipment and system designs
  • You are a trusted technical resource for instrumentation, controls, and automation challenges
  • You have improved system reliability, safety, and maintainability through thoughtful design and troubleshooting
  • You have become a core contributor to Ayrton's engineering culture and product development process

Your Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience designing, building and testing mechatronic systems
  • Strong hands-on experience with controls development and integration with mechanical design
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and solve instrumentation and controls-related issues in laboratory or industrial environments
  • Experience working with Solidworks CAD software to produce design and manufacturing drawings including use of GD&T
  • Track record of translating prototype designs into commercially viable products
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Eligible for Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation in Alberta
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada and able to work on-site at Ayrton Energy’s facility in Calgary

Preferred Qualifications:
